Meerderheid Europeanen negatief over immigratie

dinsdag 23 augustus 2011 10:26

Barcelona Declaration and Euro-Mediterranean partnership

The declaration is intended to establish a comprehensive Euro-Mediterranean partnership in order to turn the Mediterranean into a common area of peace, stability and prosperity through the reinforcement of political dialogue and security, an economic and financial partnership and a social, cultural and human partnership

ACT

Final Declaration of the Barcelona Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference of 27 and 28 November 1995 and its work programme.

SUMMARY

Following on from the guidelines already drawn up by the European Councils in Lisbon (June 1992), Corfu (June 1994) and Essen (December 1994) and the Commission proposals, the European Union (EU) decided to establish a new framework for its relations with the countries of the Mediterranean basis with a view to forming a partnership. This partnership became a reality at the Barcelona Conference of 27 and 28 November 1995, which brought together the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the 15 EU Member States and the following 12 Mediterranean non-member countries (MNCs): Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey. The League of Arab States and the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) were also invited, as was Mauritania (as a member of the UMA).

The 751 No-Go Zones of France

by Daniel Pipes
November 14, 2006

updated Mar 16, 2008

hey go by the euphemistic term Zones Urbaines Sensibles, or Sensitive Urban Zones, with the even more antiseptic acronym ZUS, and there are 751 of them as of last count. They are convienently listed on one long webpage, complete with street demarcations and map delineations.

What are they? Those places in France that the French state does not control. They range from two zones in the medieval town of Carcassone to twelve in the heavily Muslim town of Marseilles, with hardly a town in France lacking in its ZUS. The ZUS came into existence in late 1996 and according to a 2004 estimate, nearly 5 million people live in them.

Comment: A more precise name for these zones would be Dar al-Islam, the place where Muslims rule. (November 14, 2006)

Nov. 28, 2006 update: For an insight into how bad things are, the police in Lyons demonstrated on Nov. 9, denouncing "violence against the forces of order." Things have reached a pretty sad state when the police have to demonstrate in the streets against the criminals.

European elections 2009: EU voting system could axe political parties

The Telegraph ^ | 6/8/2009 | Bruno Waterfield in Brussels

Posted on dinsdag 9 juni 2009 9:32:03 by bruinbirdman

Voters could be asked to cast their ballot for European 'groupings' rather than political parties under plans to shake up the electoral system.

Proposals to change the way EU voting works will be tabled next year to counter the low turnout and big gains for fringe parties.

The elections have fragmented the European Parliament as never before after voters across the continent elected large numbers of non-aligned MEPs outside the traditional pro-EU Christian Democrats, Socialists and Liberals. In Britain, the BNP, UKIP, and the Greens, made gains. Joseph Daul, the chairman of the European People's Party, parliament's biggest Christian Democrat led grouping, has hinted at changes to minimise the impact of national issues, such as Britain's expenses scandal, on wider Europe.

The Threat of Islam in Flanders

by Baron Bodissey

According to the researchers, the so-called “negative” picture of the Flemish people about Islam is due to a lack of knowledge about Islam. But the reverse is true! The Fleming knows more than enough about the nature and practice of Islam to judge it with common sense. — Filip Dewinter

Multicultural indoctrination is not working, at least in Flanders.

Despite forty years of non-stop propaganda in the media, the schools, and the universities, despite the best efforts of all the cultural enrichers and diversity consultants, the residents of Flanders remain remarkably — dare I say atavistically? — racist and Islamophobic.

It really is time to abolish the Flemish people and elect a new one.

Islamists and public security concerns in eastern Europe

The proponents of Islam as a program or set of values in public life (Islamists) have represented a tiny but vocal minority among the many million Eastern Europeans of Muslim origin.  The majority of these millions tend to regard their belief or the lack of it as a personal, rather than social, matter.  This applies to Bosnia-Herzegovina too, where most of the region’s Islamists live. (besides Russia, which is to be considered separately as far as Islam in post-socialist Europe is concerned)

The widespread sharp distinction between (Neo-)Salafi and Ikhwani (Brotherhood-type) Islamists is less justified in the Eastern portion of the continent.  Despite their apparent differences, the two often refer to the same authors and concepts.  They had inspired each other at the Saudi faculties of theology for decades.  Then, from the late 1990s on, the prominent Eastern European Salafi preachers, particularly the Bosniak ones, also studied there.  The fortnightly review (Saff) published by some of these “spread extremist and anti-American rhetoric” according to an April-2008 State-Department report.  Saff was, in actual fact, not more critical of George W. Bush’s America than Western Islamists generally were.  Most were not branded as extremists. (double standard) Lees verder...

Sharia's Inroads Around the World

Pakistan recently gave in to the pressure of Islamist militants. Indeed to buy off peace, Pakistani authorities allowed the imposition of Sharia (Islamic law) in the Swat valley.

How long the cease-fire will last is anyone's guess. But in any case, Pakistan has allowed a precedent that could extend to other provinces; in fact the Swat valley is only about 100 miles away from Islamabad, the capital. But Sharia is not just making inroads in Pakistan but actually creeping in the West an

One area particularly touched by this phenomenon is the judicial system in Europe. Two recent cases in Italy and France are particularly troublesome. First, in Italy, three members of a Brescia-based Maghrebi family (father, mother and eldest son) were accused of beating up and sequestering their daughter/sister Fatima because she wanted to live a "Western" life. d in particular in Europe.

Freedom of speech is attacked by Europe

Winters Anwalt meldete Rechtsmittel an.

In May 2008, the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, stated that Islam is part and parcel of Europe and condemned the concept of a clash of civilizations. “Islam today is part of Europe. It is important to understand this. One should not see Islam as outside Europe. We already have an important presence of Islam and Muslims among our citizens,” Barroso told a press conference after a dialogue between EU leaders and twenty high-level representatives of Christianity, Judaism and Islam in Europe. The Grand Mufti of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Dr. Mustafa Ceric, responded that Islam is indeed part of Europe but unfortunately Turkey is not yet part of Europe. “Following this logic Europe has to prove that Islam is part of Europe by not delaying the acceptance of Turkey to the EU,” he said.

«Shaping Migration Patterns»

Tuesday 25 September 2007, by Frattini Franco

International migration is growing in scope and complexity and has a serious impact – both positive and negative – on the EU and its Member States. The EU’s comprehensive migration policy provides a coherent and efficient way of responding to the challenges and opportunities linked to migration. Over the coming years the EU will need to further expand this comprehensive common migration policy, based on a continuation of the work carried out over the last seven years since Tampere.

This kind of comprehensive policy covers both the internal and the external aspects of migration. It needs to deal with legislation, but also with practical cooperation. It will also require close and constructive cooperation between all stakeholders involved.

The Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe

Synopsis

The Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE) claims to be an independent organization representing the interests of Muslims in Europe. In reality, the FIOE is an umbrella group that comprises the global Muslim Brotherhood in Europe. Strong links connect FIOE's leadership central institutions and member organizations to the Brotherhood, as well as to Saudi Arabia. Funding for the FIOE is derived largely from Gulf sources, including some of the ruling families of the United Arab Emirates. The FIOE has strong ties to Hamas and Hamas fund-raising organizations, and some FIOE member organizations show evidence of links with Al-Qaida. The FIOE has recently opened a headquarters office in Brussels and has had some success in positioning itself as a “dialog partner” for the EU and other important institutions.

The International War on Free Speech

Geert Wilders is a member of the Dutch Parliament and a documentary film producer; not exactly the person one would expect to find on the front line in the battle against both radical Islam and the Islamist assault on free speech. Yet, that is where the 45 year-old founder of the Party for Freedom stands. Wilders, by posting the infamous Danish cartoons of Muhammad on his website and producing a short film titled Fitna, has stirred international controversy that has prompted boycotts of Dutch products, condemnation by the UN Secretary General, constant death threats, and civil and criminal prosecution. Americans, especially politicians on the Left, should take notice.

Fitna features graphic images of terrorist attacks and quotes radical Imams and Koranic Suras used to justify terrorism. In response to the film, Wilders' own government, at the behest of an angry Muslim population, investigated whether he violated any "hate speech" laws but ultimately declined to prosecute him. However, the Jordanian government is prosecuting Wilders, along with 12 other Europeans, for blasphemy against Islam and requesting that Wilders be extradited to Jordan to stand trial. If convicted in Jordan, Wilders could be sentenced to death.

CDA: positieve rol islam in Midden-Oosten

EUROMED MIGRATION II

The new regional project on migration in the Euro-Mediterranean area, "EuroMed Migration II" with a budget of 5 Million Euro, funded by the European Commission, is part of a wider programme on the Justice and Home Affairs sector, approved in 2006, comprising other two regional projects in the field of Justice and Police cooperation: "EuroMed Justice II" and "EuroMed Police II".

This project is based on the Euro-Mediterranean partnership which started since the Barcelona Declaration (1995) and its subsequent evolution with the Five Year Work Programme of the Barcelona Summit (28 November 2005). This Programme calls for enhanced cooperation in the fields of Migration, Social Integration, Justice and Security through a comprehensive and integrated approach, reiterating the continued support for the objectives set out in paragraphs 11 and 12 of that Programme, while highlighting the need for improved practical cooperation at regional level.

Taking forward the common immigration and asylum policy for Europe.

Brussels, 17 June 2008

Taking forward the common immigration and asylum policy for Europe.

Today the Commission adopted a Communication on "A Common immigration policy for Europe: principles, actions and tools" and a Policy Plan "Asylum – an integrated approach to protection across the EU". The Communication puts forward ten Common Principles on which to base the common immigration policy, grouped under the three main strands of EU policy: prosperity, solidarity and security. The Policy Plan on Asylum provides for the architecture of the second phase of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS). Both address the remaining elements on immigration and asylum of The Hague Programme. They should be endorsed by the European Council of 15 October 2008 and will, in the course of 2009, feed into a new five-year Programme in the Justice, Freedom and Security area.

Published: June 9 2008 19:31 | Last updated: June 10 2008 07:10

Irish voters were warned on Monday that the rest of the European Union would look at them with “gigantic incomprehension” if they rejected the bloc’s Lisbon reform treaty in Thursday’s referendum.

Bernard Kouchner, France’s foreign minister, said Ireland had benefited more than other member states from EU largesse since it joined the bloc in 1973.

Bosnian Grand Mufti: Europe has to prove that Islam is a part of Europe by taking Turkey in

Comments by Jerry Gordon

453005226.jpgThe architects of Eurabia are having a field day in Europe this week, given an EU-sponsored Conference of Faith Leaders: Christians, Jews, and Muslims, in Brussels.

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has commented that Islam is part of Europe and Turkey should be let in. Tell that to French President Sarkozy, most Frenchmen and EU citizens, who oppose it. This despite the fact that Turkey has been a member of NATO for over 50 years. But then Turkey has changed and become Islamized, so that its more than 72 million citizens, virtually all Muslims, would swamp the demographics of Eurabia.

The Swiss journalist Alain Jean-Mairet responds to an article by Daniel Pipes entitled “Europe or Eurabia.” Pipes lists three possible outcomes to the current crisis in which millions of Muslims are slowly but surely exerting more and more influence over the European countries they have migrated to: 1) domination of Europe by Islam 2) rejection of Islam by Europeans who finally emerge from their coma and rise up against the enemy 3) peaceful and harmonious co-existence between Muslims and Europeans...

European Leaders Agree to Create Eurabia

Bat Ye’or in her book about Eurabia documented how European leaders have for years been quietly planning to merge Europe with the Islamic world. This has been denounced as a “conspiracy theory.” Only a few months ago the British Foreign Minister David Miliband said openly that the European Union should expand to include the Muslim Middle East and North Africa. Now French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are saying virtually the same thing. The greatest betrayal in European history is fact, not fiction. And to think that many people supported Sarkozy because he should “halt” Islamization. Now he is speeding it up:

"Societies or nations do the same," added the spiritual leader of the world's Anglicans.

"[These societies] assume there will always be enough to meet their desires - enough oil, enough power, enough territory - the same fantasy is at work."

The Rape of Europe

Created 2006-10-25 21:57

The German author Henryk M. Broder recently told the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant (12 October) that young Europeans who love freedom, better emigrate. Europe as we know it will no longer exist 20 years from now. Whilst sitting on a terrace in Berlin, Broder pointed to the other customers and the passers-by and said melancholically: “We are watching the world of yesterday.”

Europe is turning Muslim. As Broder is sixty years old he is not going to emigrate himself. “I am too old,” he said. However, he urged young people to get out and “move to Australia or New Zealand. That is the only option they have if they want to avoid the plagues that will turn the old continent uninhabitable.”

Europe alert to triple terror threat

By Olivier Guitta

Last November, Gilles de Kerchove, the European Union's anti-terror chief, said that al-Qaeda was the biggest threat to Europe. To confirm this, Western intelligence services have recently established operational links between al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and al-Qaeda in The Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) whose goals include striking at the heart of Europe.

Al-Qaeda has not made any secret of its eagerness to target Europe. Indeed, Ayman al-Zawahiri, al-Qaeda's number two, has repeatedly threatened Europe. In 2007, numerous al-Qaeda-linked plots were foiled in Europe and several cells were dismantled in France, Spain, Denmark, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom. In September, thanks to information provided by US intelligence, Germany arrested three members of an al-Qaeda cell that planned on blowing up the US military base of Ramstein and the Frankfurt airport. The European Union And The Islamization of Europe

Fjordman:

Here is a highlight from Fjordman's latest:

Far from being an irrelevant detail, religion is the heart and blood of any civilization. The greatest change (until now) in my country's history was when we adopted Christianity instead of the Norse religion. This changed the entire fabric of our culture. We became integrated into the mainstream of Western civilization at about the same time as we went from being a tribal society to a genuine state.

Maybe Christianity helped in creating the foundations of nation states with an individualistic culture. If so, perhaps changing the religion is beneficial for those who want to replace nation states with authoritarian transnational entities, for instance the European Union. Islamic societies are always authoritarian. Those who want to abolish the democratic system and rule as an unaccountable oligarchy thus naturally prefer Islam.

Fjordman: The European Union and the Islamization of Europe

Hugh Fitzgerald of Jihad Watch recently suggested a number of things Europeans can do to halt Islamization. The proposals were good, but I think we should focus on the most important obstacle: the European Union. I've suggested in the past that the EU is the principal motor behind the Islamization of Europe, and that the entire organization needs to be dismantled as soon as possible, otherwise nothing substantial can ever be done about the Muslim invasion. At the Gates of Vienna blog, I am writing a text called "Ten Reasons to Get Rid of the European Union," which can be translated into other languages and be republished when it is completed. As Bat Ye'or demonstrates in her book Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis, senior EU leaders have actively been working for years to merge Europe with the Arab world. They are now feeling confident enough to say this openly. The British Foreign Minister David Miliband in November 2007 stated that the European Union should work towards including Middle Eastern and North African countries, as this would "extend stability." He also said that the EU must "keep our promises to Turkey" regarding EU membership. Lees verder...

Winds of War: The Tripartite Threat of Radical Islam to Europe

There’s a wonderful abstract from the Israel Hasbara Committee that states the threat that Europe and this country faces from the Islamist strategy to advance their worldwide agenda that goes beyond just militant jihad - terrorism.

The threat can be visualized as a pyramid. At the tip are the Jihadists. They openly challenge the societies in which they live and are willing to shed blood. They began to establish a presence in Europe in the mid 1980s. Originating in various Middle Eastern and North African countries, they spread throughout the European continent. By the second half of the 1990s these groups and networks began to gravitate toward the orbit of al-Qaida, embracing its message of global jihad. Groups from various countries decided to join forces against their traditional enemies in the Muslim world and against the West. A key role in exchange of ideas among these groups was played by some of Europe ’s most radical mosques.

The Rate of Immigration into the EU is Increasing

by Baron Bodissey

Below is a very sobering story from today’s ANSAmed about the projected rate of immigration into Europe from “the South” over the next decade.

There are several things to bear in mind when reading this:

1.   This forecast is based on information from EuroMed, i.e. the official arm of the European Commission charged with establishing what has become known as Eurabia. One can thus assume that the predictions have been massaged to the best of EuroMed’s abilities, and that the real situation must be even worse.
2.   The more educated immigrants are going overseas, to the USA, Australia, etc. The poor, ignorant, and less employable “southerners” are moving to Europe.

The Eurabia Code
by Fjordman

DolchStossI decided to write this essay after a comment from a journalist, not a Leftist by my country’s standards, who dismissed Eurabia as merely a conspiracy theory, one on a par with The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. I do not disagree with the fact that conspiracy theories exist, nor that they can be dangerous. After all, the Protocols and the Dolchstosslegende, or “stab in the back myth” — the idea that Germany didn’t lose WW1 but was betrayed by Socialists, intellectuals and Jews — helped pave the way for Adolf Hitler and the Nazis before WW2.

The Muslims of Europe Charter

by Baron Bodissey

A couple of weeks ago several news stories appeared about a new initiative called “The Muslims of Europe Charter”. According to the EU Observer, about 400 European Muslim organizations were represented by the charter:

“The charter is a message to government and the rest of society, but also directed at Muslims within Europe,” said Ibrahim Elzayat, a spokesperson for the Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe (FIOE), the co-ordinator of the process that resulted in the historic document.
At about the same time, knowing nothing about any charter, I reported on FIOE and its website. The organization seemed to have appeared out of nowhere in order to present some of the smooth well-funded Islamic propaganda that we’ve all become familiar with in recent years. I’m not including a link to the FIOE site, because since then it has either been taken down, or has been hacked (the placeholder page for the URL now offers “Jewish porn”, among other choices).

Grand Mufti speeches at the EU, warns The Netherlands

Naturally, the EP itself was gushing with praise and goodwill towards the Grand Mufti:

Dr Hassoun was addressing a formal sitting of Parliament as the first speaker in a series of visits by eminent religious and cultural leaders in 2008, which has been designated European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

Flaig schreibt kein Pamphlet.

Considering the PetroEuro

December 7, 2007
Author:

Easily missed amid the rising outcry over oil prices is the fact that they have only been skyrocketing in dollar terms. Priced in euros—or yen, or pounds sterling—the cost of a barrel of oil has risen much less over the past decade. At recent meetings of OPEC, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, ministers disputed whether oil should be sold in euros instead of dollars (WashPost), in light of the dollar’s recent decline. Officials from Venezuela, Iran, and Algeria called for a switch. But Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, both of which hold huge dollar reserves, urged caution, and the bloc concluded the meetings saying it would further study (FT) the impact of the falling dollar on its member states.

Ministerial Conclusions of the first Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Meeting on Migration

Legal migration

Facilitate legal movement as one of the key elements of our cooperation, through promoting legal migration opportunities, being aware of the globally positive effect of legal migration in terms of development. It must be underlined that such policies need to take into account the needs of the countries of origin in terms of transferring competences and alleviating the consequences of the brain drain that migration can represent. In order to promote the framework that allows for the orderly management of legal migration in the interest of all parties concerned, it is proposed to analyse the possibilities of facilitating and simplifying legal migration procedures for workers in demand, in order to improve legal channels for migration. These efforts would focus on different categories of legal workers and could also include different forms of mobility such as circular and temporary migration, taking into account the needs of the Euro-Mediterranean countries labour markets as well as in terms of development.

Strategic patterns - to know where we stand

The European Elite has aimed for a systematic strategy to get the national states dismantled and replaced by an ideological project. The etnic Europeans are becoming more and more sceptical, but that definitely does not prevent the train in moving on towards Neurope, and Eurabia as long as the oiltrade secures the Euro-consuming European Elite. The etnic Europeans are simply ignored in all matters concerning them most dearly a lot of investigations shows. I addition what concerns the semi-secret alliance-efforts towards the Arabic world the strategic components seen from here is the mentions ones in the links below.

To draw an almost realistic picture of the future in Denmark and in Europe, you have to make some assumptions concerning among other things characterizing patterns that remain unchanged or that are expected to develop along some fairly known directions according to experience. And the expected reactions to this development must also be included if possible.

Europe and the West in Denial

Melanie PhillipsToday I present an article from author Melanie Phillips which was recently published by National Review (hat-tip: Gramfan). This is important reading, so I am cross-posting it in full. I encourage you to read it all, especially if you live in Europe or have any compassion for the plight of Europeans at all. In my view the very same things discussed by Phillips apply to Australia and the United States and Canada, too, but just to a lesser extent because of our relative isolation from the immediate threat from Islamism for now. I have taken the liberty of adding emphasis to items that I believe to be of particular importance.

When I published my book Londonistan last year, I believed Britain was deeply in denial over the threat of radical Islamism. Today — six years after 9/11; two years after the 7/7 London suicide bombings; one year after the discovery of the al Qaeda transatlantic-airline plot; two months after the car-bomb attacks on a London nightclub and Glasgow airport — even with an apparently neverending procession of trials of British Islamist terrorists and with MI5 stating that it is monitoring no fewer than 200 U.K. Islamist terror groupings, 2,000 individual terrorists, and 30 known active major terrorist plots, Britain is still failing to acknowledge the true nature and scale of what it is facing and what needs to be done to counter it.

One Europe, Many Counterterrorism Policies

August 6, 2007
Prepared by:

There is little question the United States remains a prime target for terrorists, but since President Bush declared a “war on terror” in 2001, Europe has in some ways proven a more active theater in that struggle. An April 2007 Europol report (PDF) counts 706 terror-related arrests inside the European Union in 2006 alone. These numbers do not include Britain, which claims to be investigating some 1,600 terror suspects, though it is reluctant to divulge details. Yet the wider European Union appears to recognize that a more coordinated approach may be necessary, particularly in light of the latest attacks in Britain.

While nothing like the 9/11 attacks have occurred on European soil, its cities and citizens have been targeted at least as often. TIME points out that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) central role in Afghanistan has “raised the incentive” for terrorists to strike at Germany, France, and Britain, and Claude Moniquet of the European Strategic Intelligence and Security Center says terrorists are trying to open a “new jihad” (Deutsche-Welle) in Europe. Britain’s support for the Iraq war makes it a target, just as it put Spain and Italy in the crosshairs while their troops made up significant contingents in Iraq. In early July, Spain concluded the trial of twenty-eight suspects implicated in the 2004 Madrid bombings (AP). Italy recently arrested three people suspected of operating a terrorist training school.

‘Fatwa instituut’ werkt nauw samen met Universiteit Leiden

Nederland, mei 2007

Universiteit Leiden logo

Professor P.S.

Youth Bulges, Violence, and the Fifth Village: “The Game is Over for Europe”

    by Baron Bodissey

UPDATE: This translation contains errors. Lars Hedegaard has since made a revised translation. See our newer post, “A Continent of Losers”.

Below is a translation of an interview by Lars Hedegaard of the German sociologist Gunnar Heinsohn, from the May issue of the online magazine Sappho. The article was translated from the Danish by Zonka, who deserves our thanks for undertaking such a Herculean task.

Dr. Heinsohn elaborates on a theme that Mark Steyn has made familiar: the impending demographic collapse of the West, particularly Europe, and the accompanying threat from a surplus of angry young Muslim males.

    Interview: Tabernes kontinent

While the European populations are shrinking, and the best-qualified young people are leaving, we continue to allow mass-immigration of unqualified Muslims, who will soon make our welfare society collapse. Add to this the fact that the Muslim world has built up a surplus of youths, which according to experience will lead to mass-murder, and the effect cannot be helped by foreign aid. The originator of these bleak predictions is the German sociologist Gunnar Heinsohn, who believes that the game is over for Europe.

Europe's New Anti Terrorism Convention Strong on Substance, Short on Adherents

    By Victor Comras

The new European Anti-Terrorism Convention which entered into force on June 1st, provides for a much broader and improved framework of investigative and judicial cooperation among European countries in combating terrorism than was previously the case. It builds on an earlier 1977 European Terrorism Convention which was much narrower in scope and came into play only after the commission of terrorist acts. Unfortunately, only seven of its thirty-nine European signatories have so far ratified the convention. The seven include Albania, Bulgaria, Denmark, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine. What are the others waiting for?

The new Convention, negotiated two years ago under the auspices of the Council of Europe, completely changes the ground rules. It expands coverage beyond actual “terrorist acts” to “offenses which may lead to acts of terrorism." It also does away with many of the limitations included in the previous convention and calls for full investigative cooperation, mutual assistance and extradition in cases also involving incitement, recruitment and support of terrorist activities.

Left-wing Extremists and Salafi-Jihadists in Europe: Brothers in Arms?

    By Assaf Moghadam

In recent months, a confluence of several events fueled speculation among some German officials that left-wing extremism in Germany is on the rise and may even turn to violence reminiscent of the terrorism practiced by the Red Army Faction (RAF) in decades past. Although Germany’s Minister of the Interior, Wolfgang Schäuble, today rejected rumors of a renewal of left-wing terrorism in Germany as baseless, one still wonders whether Europe may witness a reincarnation of left-wing terrorism in the near future. Is it possible that left-wing groups and Salafi-Jihadist networks in Europe may cooperate in the future? To that end, it is worthwhile to examine some of the similarities between left-wing extremism rampant in Germany during the late 1960s, 1970s, and into the 1980s on the one hand, and the Salafi-Jihadist movement on the other.

Several events provided impetus to the renewed debate surrounding left-wing extremism in Germany. On March 25, 57-year old Brigitte Mohnhaupt, a member of the “second generation” of the RAF, was released after spending the last 24 years in a German prison for her role in the killing of nine people. A former colleague of hers from the RAF, Christian Klar, asked for an early release, only to be rejected by President Horst Köhler after the latter found him to be unrepentant. German fear that left-wing extremists are planning major disruptions at the forthcoming summit of the G-8 in Heiligendamm heightened concerns of a left-wing terrorist resurgence. In early May, the head of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Verfassungsschutz, VS) of the state of Baden-Württemberg, Johannes Schmalzl, noted that the “old spirit of the RAF” was wandering across the “leftist scene.”

The Result of European Unification Will be War

A comment from “Archonix” (an Englishman) at Gates of Vienna, 30 April 2007

[T]he EU economies are not substantially better than they were in the 90s. Many are at the same level, others are worse. Ask any Italian what he thinks of the economy at the moment and if you're lucky he’ll just shout at you for a few hours. The only reason your dollars don’t seem to go far any more is because the dollar has fallen significantly, not because the euro has risen. The euro is placing a massive inflationary burden on the EU economies, which no longer have the mechanism of altering interest rates in order to control inflation.

Further, there is no mechanism for national debt transfer, as exists in the US, which places further inflationary pressure on individual member states. This pressure is compounded by inflation in members states that are net recipients of EU funding (Spain and Ireland as examples) who are able to cut taxes to miniscule amounts because they’re getting funded by the other EU member states. All of this is combining to produce an inflationary economy with no control mechanism. Unemployment has risen constantly within the euro zone since the euro was introduced, and productivity has fallen just as constantly. National debts are going up, taxes are rising, GDP is falling.

    Towards a Totalitarian Europe

Former Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovksy has warned that the European Union is on its way to becoming another Soviet Union. When people who have worked on higher levels in the EU system note similarities as well, it is time people start taking this idea seriously.

In 2002 Louis Michel, the then Belgian minister of foreign affairs and today a member of the European Commission, told the Belgian parliament that the EU will eventually encompass North Africa and the Middle East as well as Europe. The MEDA programme, the principal financial instrument for the implementation of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, between 2000-2006 spent €5,350 million on its various programs, according to the EU’s official website. During the period 1995-1999, some 86% of the resources allocated to MEDA were channelled to Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey and the Palestinian Authority.

Is European Civil War Inevitable by 2025?

Is European Civil War Inevitable by 2025?
    Part One
    by Paul Weston

If I were to tell you that within twenty years Europe could find itself engaged in a civil war so bloody it made WWII look like a bun fight, you might logically consider me a candidate for the men in white coats. You would be wrong, however. Based on the demographic evidence collated for this article, such a scenario looks not merely possible, but inevitable. In 2005 European males aged 20-40 outnumbered Muslim males of a similar age by 18:1. By 2025 this ratio could drop to a mere 2:1.

Netherlands: Saudis Insist Wilders Retracts Islamic Comments

Last Tuesday, Dutch right-wing politician Geert Wilders made some scathing, but honest, assessments of Islam. The comments were made during an interview with De Pers newspaper. Wilders said: "If Mohammed lived here today, I would propose he be tarred and feathered as an extremist and driven out of the country." He said half of the Koran shoulf be torn up and thrown away, and also stated: "Everything we are proud of, we are selling to the devil. Former head of the Mossad Efraim Halevy says that World War III has begun. I would not use those words, but it's true."

He added: "Take a walk down the street and see where this is going. You no longer feel like you are living in your own country. There is a battle going on and we have to defend ourselves. Before you know it there will be more mosques than churches!"

    Sweden’s Iraqi Connection

    by Baron Bodissey

Before we get into the meat of this post, I’d like to offer special thanks to our Danish friend Kepiblanc, who has been doing such magnificent journeywork in the last few months translating for Gates of Vienna. He not only translates from his native Danish, but also from Swedish, Norwegian, German, and French when the occasion warrants and/or the mood strikes him. He’s like a babelfish translation automaton, except that the resulting English is fluent and makes complete sense!

So let’s hear a round of Gates of Vienna applause for Kepiblanc.

Saddam’s people in SwedenThis article (translated by Kepiblanc) is from the Swedish blog kulturrevolution.se, and concerns the growing Iraqi criminal networks in Sweden.

The Iraq war prompted an exodus of thugs and criminals from Iraq, particularly those who had previously been employed by Saddam’s Mukhabarat. According to Brynte Cronsköld — who is a Crime Inspector with the Swedish Customs Service — the shrewd Baathist refugees have learned to game Sweden’s asylum system, as so many questionable Third World “refugees” have done before them.

Germany’s EU Plan: The Constitution Is Dead, Long Live the ‘Basic Law’

Sometimes I sit in my office and listen to the so-called debates in the Parliament chamber through a nifty little device hidden behind the ashtray on my desk. Yesterday was one of those times. The speaker was the President of the Parliament Hans-Gert Poettering putting forward what he would like to achieve in his period of office which runs until 2009 and the European elections. It appears he would quite like it to run a little longer than that, 1000 years maybe…

What got me is when through the simultaneous translation he said “Treaties are to be obeyed.”

Today I got the English transcript of the text from the Parliament interpreters who are given the text in order, sensibly, to make life easier for them,

Dewinter: End the colonization of Flemish cities

In a congress of Vlaams Belang Youth Filip Dewinter called to end the colonizing of Flemish cities where already more than a quarter of the population are foreigners.

"The white ethnic Flemish will be a minority in a couple of generations in quite a few neighborhoods of our big cities.  In cities like Brussels, Antwerp, Leuven and Mechelen the non-European immigrant minorities of all types make up together 57, 25, 18 and 17 percent of the population respectively.  According to Dewinter.  A collection of laws is needed in order to preserve the Flemish character of the cities, such as stopping entry of immigrants into social housing, or allowing social benefits only after seven years stay (unemployment benefits, social housing, social facilities of all types) such as done in Denmark.

Islam is "Perhaps the most important stumbling block to pass for adaptation and assimilation. The Islam is more than a religion.  It a way of living, a society model, a law system that is often diametrically opposed to every Europe and our culture stands for.  Islam is like a cuckoo.  It lays its eggs in the warm European nest."

EU Officials Urge Revamp of Defense Sector

Senior EU officials called for an overhaul of the EU defense industry in an effort to curb protectionism, encourage competitiveness and implement more effectively a single market in the defense sector.

The EU Commissioner responsible for enterprise and industry policy Günter Verheugen said on Thursday that EU's defense industry needed restructuring and consolidation if it were to survive and compete effectively against the United States.

"If we continue along the current path, the present fragmented industrial bases in Europe will not be sustainable," Verheugen told a defense conference in Brussels.

Verheugen stressed that the European defense sector in its current form was riddled with inefficiency and national protectionism. Maintaining national control in the defence sector has pushed the prices up and undermined the future of the 300,000 jobs in defense manufacturing across the EU.

Eurabia Moves Forward: Italy Launches “Mediterranean Health Partnership”

The first time I read Bat Ye’or’s description of the Eurabian networks, I found it hard to believe that something that big could go on despite the fact that I had never heard about any of it. But then I started checking the available documents myself, and discovered that it was all true. Perhaps the greatest betrayal in modern Western history, yet largely ignored by Western media.

The EU Commission and senior European officials at the very highest levels, frequently diffused through various innocent sounding and semi-official organizations, create agreements with Arabs and then quietly implement them later as federal EU policy.

This is accomplished because tens of billions of Euros paid by European tax payers are floating around in an EU system with very little control. Europeans are thus financing their continent’s merger with, in reality colonization by, the Arab and Islamic world without their knowledge and without their consent. If average Europeans understood the implications of what is going on, there would be explosions of anger from tens of millions of people all over Europe and the entire European Union would immediately disintegrate and collapse. However, most people do not yet understand the full scale of this, since our so-called critical and independent journalists remain suspiciously quite about the issue.

It is apparent that Ms Khan is more Briton than Muslim, and Allah be praised for that.

Gina Khan is a very brave woman. Born in Birmingham 38 years ago to Pakistani parents, she has run away from an arranged marriage, dressed herself in jeans and dared to speak out against the increasing radicalisation of her community.

“There are mosques springing up on every street corner,” she says, pointing them out to me as we drive to her tiny house in Birmingham, near the district where nine men were arrested last week on suspicion of plotting to kidnap and behead a British Muslim soldier. Two suspects have since been released without charge.

Muslim Reformist: German Intellectuals Betray Europe

The intrepid Fjordman writes to notify us that "in an essay in Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten yesterday, Muslim reformist Bassam Tibi explained his decision to leave Germany after 44 years. The article has been translated to English and reposted at the Gates of Vienna blog."

    Fjordman continues:

Tibi makes many valid points regarding the cowardice and censorship in Europe these days, and he should be given credit for consistently criticizing those Muslims who are pushing for the gradual implementation of sharia in Western lands. I hold him in higher esteem as a thinker than some other self-proclaimed reformists such as Irshad Manji.

However, he states that Muslims, in order to live in Western countries, have to renounce Jihad and "give up" sharia. This is certainly a brave thing to say, but exactly how does he propose to do that in real life, given that, as he himself readily admits, only a minute fraction of those calling themselves Muslims would agree with such radical views? And even if such a transformation took place, could the resulting religion be called Islam anymore? Since there are dozens, probably more than one hundred, verses calling for Jihad, some of them explicitly violent, in the Koran, and even more references in the hadith, doesn't this mean that Muslims have to renounce large parts of the Koran, the hadith and the personal example of Muhammad in order to achieve this? Even if that could be done, which I seriously doubt, the result could hardly be recognized or described as "Islam" in any traditional sense of the word.

    Brussels’ Hidden Employees

The European Commission’s website claims it has 25,000 staff. The British Government thinks the number is about 37,000. But the total employed by the Brussels executive is actually more than 54,000, researchers at the Westminster think tank Open Europe have discovered. [...]

Lorraine Mullally, of Open Europe, said: “The EU discreetly publishes a Statistical Bulletin listing staff levels at its agencies, but when we contacted these agencies directly we found they had far more staff than listed.” Many of the agencies took months to answer requests. One, the European Police College, repeatedly refused to disclose its staff numbers.

Europe resists America's Call To Curb Ties With Iran:

European governments are resisting Bush administration demands that they curtail support for exports to Iran and that they block transactions and freeze assets of some Iranian companies, officials on both sides say. The resistance threatens to open a new rift between Europe and the United States over Iran.

Administration officials say a new American drive to reduce exports to Iran and cut off its financial transactions is intended to further isolate Iran commercially amid the first signs that global pressure has hurt Iran’s oil production and its economy. There are also reports of rising political dissent in Iran.

In December, Iran’s refusal to give up its nuclear program led the United Nations Security Council to impose economic sanctions. Iran’s rebuff is based on its contention that its nuclear program is civilian in nature, while the United States and other countries believe Iran plans to make weapons. Lees verder...

Jihad and Sharia preaching in British mosques, and its implications

In this week's Jihad Watch videoblog at Hot Air, I discuss the Dispatches documentary that recently uncovered Islamic supremacism being preached in mosques that had been considered moderate. This underscores the necessity of doing what so few dare to do: discuss the elements of Islam that are fueling the jihad. This must be done, for the "extremists" are using those elements of Islam to recruit terrorists, and thus that recruitment cannot be stopped without confronting the way in which it is being done. Contrary to D'Souza, Lowry, and others, this shouldn't hurt and radicalize genuine moderates: if they're serious about Islamic reform, they shouldn't be enraged by a discussion of what needs reforming.

The Muslim Brotherhood's Conquest of Europe

Posted on 03/09/2005 6:58:35 AM PST by Traianus

The Muslim Brotherhood's Conquest of Europe by Lorenzo Vidino Middle East Quarterly Winter 2005

Since its founding in 1928, the Muslim Brotherhood (Hizb al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun) has profoundly influenced the political life of the Middle East. Its motto is telling: "Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Qur'an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope."[1]

While the Brotherhood's radical ideas have shaped the beliefs of generations of Islamists, over the past two decades, it has lost some of its power and appeal in the Middle East, crushed by harsh repression from local regimes and snubbed by the younger generations of Islamists who often prefer more radical organizations.

    A Muslim Constitution For Europe

Little Green Footballs commenter, Ulf, translated this Danish article which brings us the news that a group of high-profile European Muslims, including Tariq Ramadan, are working on a special constitution for Muslims which will be "above national legislation." Check it out:

Islamists in Europe are working on a special legislation for muslims, that will be above national legislation.

The initiative comes from the Fatwa-council for Europe, who claims that a “constitution for European muslims” is on its way. The Fatwa-council has close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood organization. It’s spokesman is Tariq Ramadan, who among many westerners has a reputation of representing a more liberal european Islam.

Thinking About the Unthinkable – Part 1: Civil War In Europe

    From The Gathering Storm

In a post I did entailed WINDS OF WAR: The Face of the Future Conflict I speculated on what the war against Islamo-fascism looming on the horizon may look like. I still stand on the statement that ‘real war’ will start when the free world finally awakes from its Islamist induced slumber. When the war arrives, it will be succinct, clear to everyone and with a focused objective - as it did for Europe on September 1st, 1939 and America on December 7th, 1941.

In my opinion and many others, this is the shape of the war to come in three parts.

Militaristic: Like all other wars, there will be a theater of battle across the globe.
Demographic: Civil war in Europe between the Islamists and native Europeans.
Economic: To defeat America they will attempt to seriously damage our economic and social infrastructure and have us sue for peace.

Islamophobia in Europe? A critical approach

Islamophobia is on the increase in Europe, and the right of Muslims to live quietly and practise their religion is under threat, speakers agreed at a Policy Dialogue on ‘Islamophobia in Europe? A critical approach’ organised by the EPC together with the King Baudouin Foundation. It was important to get away from generalisations about “what Muslims feel”, implement EU anti-discrimination and racism laws, and bring Muslim and non-Muslims together to discuss the issues.

Professor Jocelyne Cesari, Research Fellow, National Scientific Research Centre, Paris and Harvard University, described research carried out by the Euro-Islam Challenge programme into the myriad discrimination facing Islam and Muslims in Europe.

The EU and the Arabs -- First of a Series

Why did anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism become more prevalent in Europe in the years before 9/11 and intensify thereafter? Why have the Europeans been less convinced than Americans that 9/11 ushered in a new era of mega-terrorism that threatens the fabric of Western civilization? Why did EU governments, for many years prior to Arafat’s death, lend their support, including their financial support, to the Palestinian Authority and take advantage of every available opportunity to harshly criticize Israel? Why did it take so long for the EU to declare Hamas a terrorist organization, and why has it still not quite reached that point with Hezbollah? In the run-up to the Iraq war, why did “Old Europe” strenuously oppose America’s determination to employ military force if Saddam Hussein didn’t abide by the requirements of Security Council Resolution 1441? Why did millions of ordinary Europeans march in the streets to protest the looming Anglo-American invasion of Iraq? Why do these same people believe that the United States and Israel are the biggest threats to world peace?

These are some of the questions that have confounded me since that sunny day in September 2001 when the world changed. And it stands to reason that the attitudes and actions of the governments and peoples of Europe encouraged the growth of similar attitudes among a sizable segment of the American public.

The EU and the Arabs II -- Kojeve's Latin Empire

In the first installment of this series, I provided a taste of the advice that Kojeve gave to General de Gaulle in late August of 1945. Kojeve’s view of France’s position and predicament in the worldwide geopolitical landscape at the end of World War II was the framework from which his recommendations flowed. In this post, I examine his geopolitical thinking. It will be shown that, with two notable exceptions, Kojeve’s ideas regarding the general contours of the post-war world were remarkably prescient and have been guiding lights in French foreign policy, up to and including the present day. His two major errors were his failures to recognize that the colonial era would soon be over and to understand how severely the war had diminished Britain’s power. While these shortcomings would seemingly have caused Kojeve’s prediction of the trajectory of world affairs to be off the mark, they did not.

The EU and the Arabs III -- France's Tilt

This installment of “The EU and the Arabs” provides the connecting link between the ideas and policies set forth in 1945 by Kojeve in his advocacy of a French-led “Latin Empire” and the institutionalization of the Euro-Arab Dialogue (EAD) in 1973. The objective of this post is to trace and understand the radical transformation of France’s Middle East foreign policy that took place after Charles de Gaulle ascended to the presidency of the new Fifth Republic in 1958. I will show that the tipping point in France’s foreign policy – from pro-Israeli to pro-Arab – was de Gaulle’s granting of independence to Algeria in 1962. That event represented the death-kneel of Kojeve’s Latin Empire, which had as one of its underlying assumptions the continuation of colonialism. With colonialism’s end, de Gaulle had to find another way to continue his quest to restore France as a Great Power that could act independently of the “Anglo-Saxon” and “Slavo-Soviet” Empires. Becoming the friend and sponsor of Arab countries was the means to this end.

The EU and the Arabs IV -- War, Oil, EAD

    Bron

    Introduction

Unlike previous installments of this series, this one deals with the events of only one year: from the fall of 1973 to the fall of 1974. During this period, the Arabs and the Israelis fought another war (the Yom Kippur War), OPEC quadrupled the price of oil, and the Euro-Arab Dialogue (EAD) was formally established. With the EAD’s formation, European Union (EU) and American policies vis-à-vis the Middle East sharply and permanently diverged, with the former seeking to heighten the stature and influence of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the latter opposing it.

My primary sources are Henry Kissinger’s Years of Upheaval[24] (the second volume of his three-volume memoirs), published in 1982, and Saleh Al-Mani’s The Euro-Arab Dialogue,[25] published in 1983. Kissinger, of course, was the US Secretary of State at the time. Al-Mani was then an Associate Professor at King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Despite their different vantage points, Kissinger’s and Al-Mani’s accounts do not conflict with each other. Al-Mani’s book is frequently cited in Bat Ye’or’s recently published Eurabia.[26]

I apologize for the excessive length of this post.  To fulfill the purposes outlined in the first installment of this series and to make it more difficult for those who chose an interpretation of history different from mine to refute it, extensive documentation is mandatory.  To my knowledge, this post is the first time that documentary evidence from a senior American official, an Arab academic, and an Egyptian-born Jew have been brought together.  Please take the time to read it; it will be worth your while.

The EU and the Arabs V -- The UN’s Tilt

The previous installment of this series ended by recounting the organizational meeting of the Euro-Arab Dialogue and the formation of the Parliamentary Association for Euro-Arab Cooperation in June 1974.

    Euro-Arab Dialogue (EAD)

Among European states, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg were the most prominent proponents of the EAD. Also among these states, the French was the first to support the long-standing Arab demand that the PLO, which was well-represented at the meeting, participate in any negotiations regarding Israel. It was at this time that the French began pressing for international recognition of a Palestinian state.

The Joint Memorandum issued at the close of the organizational meeting includes these words:

The establishment of a cooperation of the two groups is inspired by neighboring ties and a common cultural heritage, as well as by their complementary and convergent interests. This cooperation should contribute to reinforce the relations that already exist and to develop the friendship between the states and the people concerned. It should improve their comprehension and their mutual trust and open new horizons in the political, economical, social, and cultural domains.

Areas of cooperation included nuclear technology, utilization of nuclear power, scientific research, technological development, technical & professional training, telecommunications, industrialization, finance, business, planning and building of cities, infrastructures, transportation, urbanization, health, education, and tourism.

Regarding cultural matters, the Memorandum stated that the principal objective was the consolidation and deepening of cultural understanding, along with an intellectual rapprochement between the two regions. To achieve this, the two parties agreed to encourage discussions by scholars from existing institutions and the creation of a joint Euro-Arab cultural institution.

The Memorandum also addressed the problems of the Arab workforce in Europe, which were to be settled by equality of treatment in employment, working and living conditions, and social security benefits.

In October 1974, a permanent EAD secretariat of 350 members devoted to cooperation between Europe and the Arab world was established in Paris.

    Islamic Europe?

SELDOM HAS THE COURSE of European history been changed by a non-politician's throwaway remark in a German-language newspaper on a Wednesday in the dead of the summer doldrums. But on July 28, Princeton historian Bernard Lewis told the conservative Hamburg-based daily Die Welt that Europe would be Islamic by the end of this century "at the very latest," and continental politics has not been the same since. Days before the third anniversary of 9/11, Frits Bolkestein of the Netherlands, the outgoing European Union competition commissioner, caused an uproar when he mentioned Lewis's remark in the course of an address at the opening of courses at the University of Leiden . Bolkestein warned that the E.U. will "implode" if it expands too quickly. It was a timely topic.

A few days from now, the E.U. commissioner for expansion, Günter Verheugen of Germany, will issue a report on whether to open negotiations with Turkey on E.U. membership. It is expected to be positive. The full commission must vote on the report in December, after which a decade of talks is envisioned. But since the Verheugen report is likely to be positive, and since the commission is expected to rubber-stamp the report's recommendations, and since no candidate state that has begun E.U. accession negotiations has ever been rejected, the process has the look of a fait accompli. Thanks to . . . what? . . . Günter Verheugen's mood, the peoples of Europe are about to see their fate yoked irrevocably to that of the Islamic world.

The Parliamentary Association for Euro-Arab Cooperation was founded in 1974 by Parliamentarians from the, then, nine countries of the European Community. Its main objectives are the promotion of peace in the Middle East as laid down in the United Nations resolutions and the strengthening of political, economic and cultural co-operation between Europe and the Arab world.

In this context, the Association informs its members and co-ordinates their actions for better relations between Europe and the Middle East, organises regular meetings with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union visits to the Middle East and to Arab countries in general, receives delegations, and is in contact with European governments, the Presidency of the European Council of Ministers and the Commission of the European Communities. It has observer status at the Inter-Parliamentary Union and at the United Nations Economic and Social Committee. Lees verder...

MEDEA an important player in the Eurabia treason.

    Medea

As President of MEDEA Institute for the last 4 years, it is with conviction, but also with certain realism that I address you this message. With conviction because over these last few years, a web of trust, mutual respect, and collaboration was woven with many key actors and intellectuals from the Mediterranean and Arab region. With realism because the recent events and declarations do not augur well for the future of relations between Europe and the Arab and Mediterranean region. The European Union identified one of its main challenges in foreign policy as strengthening cooperation with its neighbours, and more specifically with those of the South and the Arab-Muslim world. In this overall framework, MEDEA Institute’s role appears clear. While closely following the process prompted in Barcelona in 1995, which is constantly evolving, our purpose is to develop in Brussels and in the Mediterranean , an environment of knowledge and understanding of the realities, ideas and culture of our southern neighbours. Eurabia Buries Her History and Traditions

    Friday, February 17, 2006

There may be no worse affliction for a culture than its flaccid deflation in the face of bullies. When nothing is worth dying for, then life has no joy either. When the goal is to avoid getting killed, joy dies.

Celebrations in America are often based on old traditions, imported from Europe. Louisiana has Mardi Gras, and throughout the rest of the country Christian churches which follow the liturgical calendar closely also have a much quieter festival in the form of Shrove Tuesday, with pancake suppers and celebrations to mark the final day of the seasons of Christmas and Epiphany. At midnight, Ash Wednesday begins the penitential season that will lead to Easter.

Europe threw out the meaning behind the celebrations, but hey, that’s no reason to throw out the party, right? Especially the festivals which allow cultural transgressions with a certain impunity for making fun of important figures. For millennia, these carnivals have served as a vent for mayhem, making the rest of the year, with its daily, dull routines, more endurable.

At Brussels Journal there are two essays on the death and the dearth of Festival in Eurabia. In the first, “Dispatch from the Eurabian Front: The End of Carnival,” Belien describes the sad fear that infects the prospects of future festivals. Last year, after the carnival, those who are most compelled to obliterate joy — the “frothing fundos” as eteraz calls them — complained that the festival had made fun of Muslims: Lees verder...

    Goodbye Europe, Hello Eurabia

Europe's botched civilization, perverted by socialism and lost faith, seems to have lost the will, the passion to sustain itself. If it continues to practice today's multiculturalist leftism, Europe's demographic doom will be sealed. Some harbingers:

In Brussels, Belgium, the most popular name for baby boys is now Mohammad. Sustaining the population of a nation requires that on average each couple gives birth to 2.1 children. The average European couple now has fewer than 1.4 babies, compared to 3.6 babies born to the average Muslim immigrant couple in Europe. Across Western Europe 16 to 20 percent of babies are being born into Muslim families.
In France at least 12 percent of the population is already Muslim, the fruits mostly of immigrants from former French colonies in North Africa. If present birth trends continue, by 2030 a quarter of France's people will be Muslim, more than enough to determine who controls the national parliament and executive. As this columnist recently noted, the nuclear-armed French military is already 15 percent Muslim. Adjacent Switzerland is now 20 percent Muslim.
The German newspaper Deutsche Welle days ago reported that Germany's birth rate in 2005 fell to a level lower than at the end of World War II, to a "historic low," more than fifty percent lower than those of France and Great Britain. But at a meeting this week in Berlin that brought together the interior ministers of six European nations, Germany's leftwing Social Democrats continued to oppose the application of any test or standard that would restrict who could migrate into Germany.

The burgeoning Muslim population within Europe is not evenly spread. It is largely concentrated in and around big cities, whose local politicians feel its pressure acutely and often bend to that pressure. In the Netherlands the cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam nearly have Muslim majorities now. Lees verder...

Europe or Eurabia 2050? part 1

    Written by Sandra Carney
    Saturday, March 04, 2006

Like a mellowing parent, America in the 21st century needs to plan for the best possible future for its children and grandchildren. Common to human nature, as our years advance, we begin to search out our roots and pass on hereditary information to our descendants. In this great melting pot of a nation, there are few of us who don’t have links to Europe and we look back at the “old country” with the greatest of affection.

But do we want as an ally an aging Europe, with mounting debt and a population that is declining to grow by the tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions, with angry Muslim immigrants from North Africa and Middle East countries?

Historically, up to the beginning of last century, elderly people aged 65 years or older made up approximately 2% to 3% of the population.

In 1980 the median age for Europeans was 32 years. For U.S. citizens, it was 30 years.

By 2050, the median age projection for the European Union is 52 years. For U.S. citizens, it is 39 years.

So between 1980 and 2050, Europeans have aged 20 years, but U.S. citizens have aged 9 years.

There are two primary reasons for this age span between the average European and American. A declining birth rate in Europe has become trendy, which is coupled with rising longevity. Though Americans are also enjoying longevity, our birth rate is at about replacement level.

This forecast is dire for the continent of Europe and may bring several economic and geopolitical difficulties.

The disadvantages include slower economic growth and a higher cost per person to subsidize the public debt and provide public service such as national defense. Combine this with the funding of pensions and healthcare for the elderly and a gloomy picture rears it’s head for the future of Europe’s economic state. Lees verder...

Europe or Eurabia 2050? part 2

    Written by Sandra Carney
    Sunday, March 19, 2006

The question is: Do we really want our children and grandchildren depending on a European continent that will come to be known as Eurabia?

The United Nations’ calculations on the size of immigrants needed in Western Europe to stabilize the work force leave little room for optimism.

If the ageing problem is to be solved and the old age dependency ratio kept constant through immigration alone, then over 700 million people will have to have begun immigrating into the 15 richest European Union countries in 2000 and continue at a constant rate for the next two generations.

Only with this level of immigration will there be 100 people of working age for every 24 retirees, as there are today.

If this can be achieved by the year 2050, the population of the EU will be 1.2 billion--of which 920 million (about 75% of the populace) will be immigrants and their descendants.

The dimensions of such an immigration requirement are not very realistic.

Not to be daunted, however, the United Nations has made another more modest calculation.

In order to keep the size of the population, aged 15 to 64 constant, at the level it was between 1994 to 2000, (250 million), 80 million people would have to migrate to Europe over the next two generations.

If this can be achieved, by the year 2050, the total population should rise to 420 million, of which immigrants and their descendants will be 110 million, or 29%. With this level of immigration there will be 42 retirees per 100 people of working age.

Of course, this is worse than the required 56 retirees per 100 workers, but better than today’s 25 retirees per 100 workers. Lees verder...

Eurabia represents a geo-political reality envisaged in 1973

Eurabia represents a geo-political reality envisaged in 1973 through a system of informal alliances between . . . the European Union (EU) [and] the Mediterranean Arab countries. [. . . . ] This system was synchronized under the roof of an association called the Euro-Arab Dialogue (EAD) created in July 1974 in Paris. A working body composed of committees and always presided jointly by a European and an Arab delegate planned the agendas, and organized and monitored the application of the decisions.

The field of Euro-Arab collaboration covered every domain: from economy and policy to immigration. In foreign policy, it backed anti-Americanism, anti-Zionism and Israel's delegitimization; the promotion of the PLO and Arafat; a Euro-Arab associative diplomacy in international forums; and NGO collaboration. In domestic policy, the EAD established a close cooperation between the Arab and European media television, radio, journalists, publishing houses, academia, cultural centers, school textbooks, student and youth associations, tourism. Church interfaith dialogues were determinant in the development of this policy. Eurabia is therefore this strong Euro-Arab network of associations -- a comprehensive symbiosis with cooperation and partnership on policy, economy, demography and culture.
