'Moordenaar Seveke handelde uit wraak'

donderdag 29 maart 2007 10:37

Turkish Judiciary At War With AKP Government to Defend Its Independence

A deepening rift between Turkey's AKP government and Turkey's highest court of appeals (the Yargitay) and high administrative court (the Danistay) has recently become a focus of public debate in Turkey, and has received extensive media coverage. On March 20, the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) held a press conference to publicly protest against the government, for the first time in Turkey's history, because it obstructed the appointment of judges to the high courts for over 10 months so that it could fill vacant posts with its own Islamist-minded appointees.

This crisis comes amidst political tensions in the run-up to the presidential election in the AKP-majority parliament, which is set for May 16. It appears that the AKP government is seeking to postpone all important appointments until after the new president takes office, so as to avoid a probable veto of their nominees by the outgoing, staunchly secular President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. Secular circles fear the new president will be an Islamist - most probably the current prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, himself.

The following are excerpts from the Turkish press on the issue:

The desperate search for an Islamic Holocaust

At the Tenth Islamic Summit Conference Putrajaya, Malaysia on October 16, 2003 the host President, Mohammed Mahathir called on the world’s Islam to seize on opportunities and develop a doctrine that can allege persecution of Islam under fictitious pretexts and create an appearance in which Muslims can claim superior moral ground particularly against Jews.

Said Mahathir:

“But today the Jews rule this world by proxy… They survived 2000 years of pogroms not by hitting back, but by thinking. They invented and successfully promoted Socialism, Communism, human rights and democracy so that persecuting them would appear to be wrong… We must use our brains also,” said Mahathir and added that “There may be windows of opportunity for us now and in the future. We must seize these opportunities.”

How Poorly (and Dangerously) We Understand the Islamist Agenda

By Douglas Farah

Two disturbing writing receiving widespread circulation in recent day tell me a great deal about how many Muslims in the United States perceive themselves and why U.S. policy is so far, and dangerously off the mark in countering the threat of Islamists.

The first is a Washington Post op-ed" by Genieve Abdo, the keynote speaker at a recent CAIR conference. In the piece she lays out, more strongly and honestly than most of the CAIR leaders have dared to do, the true Islamist/CAIR agenda in the United States.

She essentially outlines the Muslim Brotherhood position against Islamic assimilation into the Western world and starkly states that Islamist really have no interest in such assimiliation.

"What all this means is that Western hopes for full integration by Muslims in the West are unlikely to be realized and that the future of the Islamic world will be much more Islamic than Western," she writes. This is true as long as she, CAIR and other Islamist groups continue to preach to the new generation that the more alienated one is from our culture the closer to Allah they really are.

Het Turkije waarover Geert Mak zwijgt

vrijdag 16 maart 2007 11:06

Transcripts of Interviews of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Abu Faraj al-Libi, & Ramzi Binalshibh

By Andrew Cochran

Here are the transcripts of the interviews by the Defense Department of the three most senior Al Qaeda leaders in custody in the world, provided to us by Jean Charles Brisard. The Defense Department has posted more information at a special website.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed: "I was responsible for the 9/11 operation from A to Z"

Abu Faraj al-Libi (who did not attend his session)

Ramzi Binalshibh (who refused to attend the session)

KSM claimed responsibility for planning up to 28 attacks, some of which were never carried out, and complained of torture while in custody. Al-Libi reportedly masterminded two bombings in Pakistan in December 2003 targeting President Pervez Musharraf for his support of the U.S.-led war on terror. Binalshibh is suspected of helping Mohammed with the 9-11 attack plan and is linked to a plot to crash aircraft into London's Heathrow Airport.

DEBKAfile Exclusive: The Sword of Islam (al Qaeda) kidnapped and is holding BBC reporter Alan Johnston

Our counter-terror sources report that Johnston, 44, was snatched Monday, March 12, in Gaza City, by the same group which together with Hamas kidnapped the Israeli soldier Gilead Shalit in June 2006. It is led by the brothers Mumtaz and Muetaz Durmush.

Palestinian security units have been going through the motions of hunting for the missing journalist, throwing up roadblocks and searching vehicles. In actual fact, they know exactly who is holding him. Although it is an open secret, the Palestinian authorities, like the British, who maintain a broad intelligence presence in the Gaza Strip, and Israel all feign ignorance about the party behind the kidnap.

The BBC is counting on a private deal for freeing Johnston, thereby giving the Durmush brothers another boost. Every few weeks the al Qaeda group they head targets a Westerner as a hostage. All of them, excepting the Israeli soldier, have been ransomed for hundreds of thousands of dollars, a supply of weapons and guarantees of safety for the Durmishes and their Sword of Islam gang.

DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources see this process, which repeats itself periodically, as abject surrender by the United States, Britain, other European governments and Israel to a virulent form of al Qaeda terror instead of fighting it.

Tariq Ramadan and Islam’s Future in Europe

From 2003 to 2006 I worked as a civil servant in the Berchem borough of Antwerp, Flanders. Berchem is a multicultural neighbourhood with many immigrants of Turkish and Moroccan origin. My job was to promote the integration of these people and foster good relations between the different ethnic groups living in Berchem. Prior to 2003 I worked in Antwerp North, another neighbourhood with many immigrants.

During the past years I noted how radical Islamists groups began to take over the immigrant neighbourhoods. I warned for this danger in my reports to the city authorities. The latter made it clear to me that they did not like my reports. They said my reports read like “Vlaams Belang tracts.” The VB is the local anti-immigration party. When I kept reporting about what I saw happening around me I was fired.

Is U.S. Supporting Brotherhood Activities in Syria?

By Jonathan Winer

An important article in The New Yorker by Sy Hersh describes in detail a redirection of U.S. counter-terrorsim policy away from focusing on extreme Sunni forces in the Middle East in order to redirect it against Iran and Syria.

In Hersh's words:

"To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has coöperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda."

France and the UK reinforcing security measures after the defection of Iranian Vice defense minister

By Olivier Guitta

In fact, Kuwaiti daily Al Seyassah believes that Paris and London have reinforced security measures after the Israeli Mossad provided them with reliable information on the terrorist threat represented by Hezbollah cells helped by Iranian Services based in the Iranian embassies and consulates in Europe. The targets would be the Israeli diplomatic and consular representations as well as Israeli nationals and Israeli interests in Europe in general. According to British sources quoted by the newspaper, “some Lebanese Shiites living legally in Great Britain, and other clandestine ones, are being monitored since last Tuesday, whereas other Arab nationals infiltrated clandestinely in the United Kingdom were stopped and expelled”. The daily newspaper adds that “hundreds of Lebanese Shiites who own small restaurants and taxis, use their businesses to to spy and smuggle goods. From now on, they are monitored by Scotland Yard and MI-5”. According to the analysis of Mossad, quoted by the newspaper, “Hezbollah feels encircled and choked since its expulsion of South Lebanon. The disappearance of the Iranian general Asghari could represent an excuse for Hezbollah to attack Israel abroad through terrorism”. The daily newspaper believes that “ militants of Hezbollah recently entered French territory through northern neighboring countries and settled in cities with a strong Moroccan and Algerian community. Two lawyers of Maghrebi descent would have helped the Hezbollah commandos to enter French territory”.

If this latest info were to be confirmed, it would be quite worrisome since French intelligence do not have a good grasp on Shiite sleeping terror cells operating inside the country, compared to their outstanding knowledge of Sunni terrorism. Keep in mind that Hezbollah already successfully orchestrated a wave of terror attacks in France killing over a dozen and injuring 300 in public places in particular in Paris.

Fighting an addiction bureaucracy

A British doctor insists that drug addiction is not a disease, but a response to personal and existential problems -- and can be cured by an effort of the will.
