Khadija, the masked Muslim woman who gave UK Channel 4’s “alternate” Christmas address accompanied by vaguely Christmas-y music and pictures of snowflakes, is a member of a radical Pakistani Islamic cult whose goal is to convert the whole world to Islam: Unmasked: the veiled white Muslim convert whose great grandmother was a suffragette. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)
The Daily Mail can now unveil “Khadijah” - and reveal that she is in fact Elaine Atkinson, an English convert to Islam who travels the country working for a radical muslim group trying to take political control of Pakistan.
And despite her presentation by Channel 4 as a moderate, in the past the 38-year-old has described non-believers as “rats in cages going round on a treadmill” of consumerism, and declares she would like to see Britain’s pubs converted into mosques.
Since going through an islamic marriage ceremony with a British-born muslim of Pakistani origin, Miss Atkinson - a fromer [sic] radical feminist - has become known as Khadijah Iqbal.

Tiny Minority of Extremists Update. "Islamist support from Oslo," from Aftenposten:
"If the Ethiopians continue to occupy Somalia, we won't sit here. We will go back to Somalia and fight as one!" says Zakharia Ahmed, banging his fist on the table.
The scene is the Café Bolsho in Oslo's downtown immigrant district Grønland. Dozens of compatriots are gathered round in the noisy café, and Ahmed clearly has full support. "Yes, we will go back and fight," the others shout.
Aftenposten has chosen this Somali café at random. The conversation is animated, takes place in Somali, English and Norwegian, and here there is total agreement.
According to me Iran makes news on the basis of an old report form 2003, I asked the mentioned Christa Schaff to react. We will see.
Around 20 percent of German children and teenagers have been diagnosed with psychological disorders, announced the head of the Professional Association for Children and Youth Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in Germany (BKJPP), Christa Schaff.
The latest figure has caused a stir in the German public in the wake of mounting press reports about brutal child abuse cases.
Medical Experts have cited social poverty, political insecurity, low education level and drug-dependency as only several factors for contributing to the state of mental health of Germany's children and young adults.
Statistics released by the German Children Protection Federation reported that some 2.5 million children are social welfare recipients.
The Guardian has the news, with the usual Spiel:
"Spain is to hire 180,000 immigrants in their countries of origin next year in an effort to stem illegal immigration while satisfying its demand for cheap labour."
It seems the business lobby in Spain is going full speed ahead in national destruction as we can see in the rest of the Western world. MORE
Well, that is just a wafer-thin slice of the community, isn't it?
Four out of 10 British Muslims want sharia law introduced into parts of the country, a survey reveals today.
The ICM opinion poll also indicates that a fifth have sympathy with the "feelings and motives" of the suicide bombers who attacked London last July 7, killing 52 people, although 99 per cent thought the bombers were wrong to carry out the atrocity.
That's from the London Telegraph, folks. Read the rest.
The article accurately notes that this fatwa could have far-reaching implications on Sunni-Shi'ite conflicts everywhere, particularly in the growing Saudi-Iranian rivalry, and concerning the Shi'ite minority within Saudi Arabia. Sunni-Shi'ite Jihad Update. "Revered Saudi cleric denounces Shi'ites as infidels," from Reuters:
DUBAI, Dec 29 (Reuters) - An influential cleric of Saudi Arabia's hardline Sunni school of Islam has denounced Shi'ite Muslims as "infidels" in a new religious edict that comes amid rising sectarian tension in the region.
"The rejectionists (Shi'ites) in their entirety are the worst of the Islamic nation's sects. They bear all the characteristics of infidels," Sheikh Abdel-Rahman al-Barrak said in the fatwa, or ruling, distributed on Islamist Web sites.
Sehr geehrte Frau Reichhelm!
PI-Leser FreeSpeech hat das Buch „The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam" von Yusuf al-Qaradaw gelesen.
How was it with the rights of German property rights after world war 1, is this not a warning of more problems?
December 28, 2006 -- International administrators in Kosovo are violating commonly accepted rights to property through a UN privatization scheme that is transparently discriminatory, says Veselin Kocanovic, a coordinator for development and reconstruction for the Coordination Center for Kosovo.
"Kosovo Privatization Agency has basically confiscated all state owned property in Kosovo and declared that the firms have no ownership nor control over it although Serbia has invested over $17 billion since 1970 through the underdevelopment fund derived from taxes of ordinary Serbs so that majority Kosovo Albanians could get economic help," say Kocanovic.

On Wednesday, I had an article at Pajamas Media that discusses the reasons for Ethiopia's surprisingly successful military campaign against the radical Islamic Courts Union (ICU) in Somalia. (The previous conventional wisdom that I received from trusted military intelligence sources was that the ICU was likely to defeat the Ethiopian military and overrun the secular transitional federal government, which was then holed up in the south-central Somali city of Baidoa.) An excerpt:
The American intelligence officer who earlier predicted the transitional government's defeat tells Pajamas Media that there are two major reasons why both he and the ICU underestimated the Ethiopian military.
First, Ethiopia's air power was decisive. Over the weekend, Ethiopian jets attacked several airports used by the ICU, and struck recruiting centers and other strategic targets in ICU-run towns. Professor [Abdiweli] Ali reports that the ICU's shoulder-fired anti-aircraft weapons are unable to hit Ethiopia's aircraft at high altitudes. While the ICU may have some surface-to-air missiles, these devices would be quite old -- and complex Soviet weaponry tends to degrade.
Good news from Australia about a case we have covered here extensively. Remember, one of the things they were censured for was...reading from the Qur'an. From WorldNetDaily.com, with thanks to all who sent this in:
Two Australian pastors who were convicted of "vilifying" Muslims when they quoted from the Quran during a seminar on jihad have had their appeals upheld by the Victorian Supreme Court.
And while that means they will return to a lower court for another trial, that actually is a good result, according to a new report from Voice of the Martyrs.
"In a sense we are happy with this decision… It means this case will be kept alive in the public consciousness," Pastor Danny Nalliah said in a VOM report. "There's a need to keep these vilification laws in sharp focus to reveal the problems this law is creating."
"Hizbullah paying for Kassam attacks," by Herb Keinon and Yaakov Katz for the Jerusalem Post
Hizbullah is paying Palestinian splinter groups "thousands of dollars" for each Kassam rocket fired at the western Negev, The Jerusalem Post has learned.
According to Israeli intelligence information, Hizbullah is smuggling cash into the Gaza Strip and paying "a number of unknown local splinter groups" for each attack.
Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) sources said the Islamist organization paid several thousand dollars for each attack, with the amount dependent on the number of Israelis killed or wounded.
DEBKAfile Exclusive: Iranian officers take command of Palestinian Gaza missile front. But Olmert ties IDF to pinpoint fire on missile crews after two Sderot schoolboys seriously hurt
The cabinet decision Wednesday ordered the IDF to stick to attacking missile crews and refrain from breaching the month-long “ceasefire,” in the course of which the Palestinians fired 70 missiles from Gaza at Israeli civilian locations. An Israeli appeal went out to the (non-functioning) Palestinian Authority to halt the six-year old barrage.
Translation by DEBKAfile’s military experts: Sderot and its neighbors will continue to live under daily missile harassment. Until the latest attack, the army was constrained on the prime minister’s order – and against its will - to hold its fire against the daily assaults, although they could clearly see the assailants in Gaza. Surgeons operated through Tuesday night to save the life of Adir Basad, aged 14, who was critically injured in all parts of his body by a falling missile outside his home in Sderot, the 8th fired in one day. His friend, Matan Cohen’s foot was smashed. Eight civilians suffered shock.
On April 25, 2005, Bulgaria officially signed the European Union Accession Treaty. Germany became the 25th member nation to drop its opposition to Accession on November 24 2006, paving the way for the nation to officially join the EU on January 1, 2007. Romania will also join the EU on the same day.
When the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Poland joined, the British government seemed unprepared for the flood of immigrants and migrant workers from these countries. With these individuals prepared to work for less than the minimum wage, the flooding of central European workers has led to resentments, and fears of the employment marketplace becoming destabilized. The government had predicted only 5,000 to 13,000 would arrive. In practice, 600,000 came. The government of Britain has placed some restrictions on new migrants from Bulgaria and Romania, but the immigration minister, Liam Byrne, admitted this month that the UK government has no idea how many from these countries will be subject to employment restrictions.
Just the smallest hint in this article as to why these "race hate" crimes are growing: a passing mention of the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks. But there is no hint here that that holds the key as to how these "racist crimes" can be stopped, and why no amount of propaganda indoctrination will suffice.
"Increase in race hate crimes casts doubt on 'One Scotland' campaign," by Michael Howie in The Scotsman, with thanks to PRCS:
RACIST crime is growing across Scotland despite a multi-million-pound Executive campaign to tackle the problem, new figures obtained by The Scotsman have revealed.
Some 3,387 racially-aggravated crimes and offences were recorded by the country's eight police forces between April and December this year, compared with 3,192 during the same period last year - a rise of 6 per cent.

MADRID, Spain: Spanish Muslims said on Wednesday that they have appealed to Pope Benedict XVI to be allowed to pray in the Cathedral of Cordoba in southern Spain, which was once an ancient mosque.
In a letter to the pope, Spain's Islamic Board said senior Spanish Catholic clergy had rejected requests for Muslims to be allowed to pray inside the Cathedral, which was converted into a church in the 13th century.
They stressed that Muslims want the mosque to turn into an ecumenical temple, where Christians, Muslims and believers from other faiths might all be worshipping the same God. They wrote a similar letter to Spain's Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero earlier this year.
"What we wanted was not to take over that holy place, but to create in it, together with you and other faiths, an ecumenical space unique in the world which would have been of great significance in bringing peace to humanity," the letter said.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report
December 26, 2006, 11:10 PM (GMT+02:00)
Ethiopia’s intervention this week to save the weak Somali government from defeat at the hands of Islamist rebels is typical of the apparently incompatible foreign, sectarian, religious and tribal elements involved in its neighbor’s civil war.
Ethiopian prime minister Meles Zenawi says his forces have killed up to 1,000 Islamist fighters. After Ethiopian jets bombed two Somali airports Monday, Dec. 25, including Mogadishu airport where the Islamic militia had set up base, Addis Ababa vowed that within five days its army would clear the Islamic fighters out of every town they have captured since June.
The Ethiopians, whose forces are vastly superior to the Islamic militia in conventional terms, say they are fighting in self-defense against the threat of a holy war.
DEBKAfile’s intelligence and military sources tracking endemic Horn of Africa conflicts report that this statement comes nowhere near representing the complexity of the crisis, for which the UN Security Council has been called into emergency session Tuesday, Dec. 26.
Very early on Christmas morning I happened to tune in the BBC World Service. I thought there might be something, perhaps King's College Choir, or the aptly-named Raniero Cantalamessa in Rome, or perhaps someone musing on the fate of Christians in Iraq, other than that moral idiot and historical nitwit, the current Archbishop of Canterbury.
But that would have been a different BBC. This BBC, the BBC of John Simpson and Judy Swallow and Robin Lustig and Barbara Plett of the ready tear for Arafat, is a very different BBC from that of Huw Weldon. And it lived up to my grim expectations. It did not disappoint.
For on the air was someone telling mournfully about "the Wall." And of course I knew which wall he was talking about. He did not mean the Wall of John Hersey, not the Great Wall of China, not the wall being built by Saudi Arabia for many hundreds of miles right through the desert, though no one threatens Saudi Arabia or its inhabitants with their total destruction, nor any other wall being built or being contemplated. No, this "wall" was the wall being built by the Israelis, as a modest measure forced upon them out of desperation as a way to prevent homicide bombers from easily entering their cities, to there set themselves off on busses, in restaurants, and at Passover celebrations. And this "wall," the smooth speaker said, was built right through the usual "uprooted and destroyed" olive groves -- a staple of "Palestinian" propaganda, those "uprooted olive groves," and so important to their propaganda machine that they have been caught uprooting their own olive trees, for the world press to come and cover and bewail.

LONDON (Reuters) - A man, whose wife made a passing comment about a Muslim woman's full face veil, suffered a broken nose and lost his front teeth after being attacked and headbutted by the woman's partner, police said on Sunday.
The victim, a 46-year-old white man, was walking through Regent's Park with his wife, son and daughter when they passed another family, a Muslim man and his wife who was pushing a baby in a pushchair.
"The victim's wife made a comment directed to her husband that she thought it must be difficult for the woman wearing the veil to see out of it as it covered her face," a police spokesman said.
"The suspect began shouting and returned approximately 10 minutes later on his own and repeatedly punched and headbutted the victim."
MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP
) — Islamic fighters retreated Tuesday as Somali government and Ethiopian troops advanced on three fronts in a decisive turn in the battle for control of this Horn of Africa nation.
Somalia's internationally backed government called on the Council of Islamic Courts to surrender and promised amnesty if they lay down their weapons, spokesman Abdirahman Dinari said from Baidoa, the seat of the interim administration.
The Combating Terrorism Center at West Point has produced our first comprehensive attempt at citation analysis: Militant Ideology Atlas. Five years after 9-11, and we’re only now getting to the point where we’re analyzing sources of jihadi ideological thinking. The enemy has had decades of deep interaction with Western political and ideological thought. And we? – Five years. There’s a reason why Newt Gingrich (and many others) describe this the "Long War." This is just the first step to a deeper understanding of how our enemy reasons. We need many, many more of these before we can call ourselves expert on matters jihadi.
According to an appendix in the report’s executive summary, the top ten most-cited Islamist scholars are:

- Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyya
- Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani
- Ibn Kathir
- Ibn Qudama
- Ibn Hazm

The question of Kirkuk's final status remains among the touchiest issues concerning Iraq's future. The Iraqi Kurdish political parties seek to include Kirkuk in a federal Kurdish state, an outcome at odds with Iraqi Turkoman sensitivities. The Turkomans consider Kirkuk to be their own ancestral capital and cultural center. Understanding the Turkoman claim to Kirkuk is essential to defuse a potentially explosive problem.
Policymakers and commentators outside Turkey often ignore the Turkomans. Literature about them is scarce in Western languages; the little that exists is limited in academic rigor and utility. Furthermore, in terms of enunciating their concerns and interacting with Western officials, the Turkomans themselves have not always been effective spokesmen for their cause.
For centuries, the Turkomans have been part of the urban elite in cities such as Baghdad, Mosul, and Kirkuk. They remain an integral part of Iraq although their population is debated. It is hard to come by adequate population numbers in Iraq. After the 1958 revolution and the Baath Party coup ten years later, successive Iraqi governments embraced Arab nationalism and worked to subvert the rights of the Kurdish and Turkoman communities. The last reliable census in Iraq—and the only one in which participants could declare their mother tongue—was in 1957. It found that Turkomans were the third largest ethnicity in Iraq, after Arabs and Kurds. The Turkomans numbered 567,000 out of a total population of 6,300,000. Later polls dropped "Turkoman" as a category. Basing his estimate on the 1957 census data and a growth rate of 2.5 percent annually, Erºat Hürmüzlü, a Kirkuk-born Turkoman scholar, estimated Iraq's Turkoman population today at no less than two million Turkomans, out of a total population of 25 million.

Reader JDM has kindly translated parts of an article from last Friday’s Jyllands Posten
. The full article requires a subscription; however, with the help of the Danish blog Uriaposten
, JDM has been able to supply portions of the piece in English.
First, an explanatory note from the translator:
It seems that France is not the dhimmi monolith that we’ve been led to believe. The interview with Chahdorrt Djavann together with the following interview seem to indicate either a growing or a previously unknown side of French society. I will note for the thin-skinned that this interview displays a typically modern European perspective (i.e., fairly anti-religious). I think this perspective gives some good hints on the direction that Europe will follow in dealing with Islam. In some ways I wonder if our respect for religious feelings in the USA may make our same struggle more difficult.
Two people were reported killed in the attack, the first on the headquarters of the Somali Islamic Courts militia, which has occupied the capital and much of the south since June. Sunday, Ethiopian prime minister Meles Zenawi acknowledged that his army was providing air and artillery support for Somali government forces against the Islamist rebels. He said his country was acting in self-defense after the Islamists, fighting for rule based on the Koran, declared holy war on Ethiopia. The Islamist militia is boosted by hundreds of foreign Islamic radicals and believed in Washington to be led by wanted al Qaeda terrorists.
Commanders of the Somali forces backed by Ethiopian troops finally claimed gains Monday. They reported the overnight capture of the border town of Belet Wayne after Ethiopian jets bombed Islamic positions. Heavy artillery and mortar fire continued around the beleaguered town of Baidoa, where the government is holed up.
In "The Muslim prophet born in Bethlehem" in The Guardian (thanks to all who sent this in), predictably enough, lauds Muslims for their alleged openness to Christianity, and scolds Christians for not being similarly open to Islam.
In 632, after five years of fearful warfare, the city of Mecca in the Arabian Hijaz voluntarily opened its gates to the Muslim army. No blood was shed and nobody was forced to convert to Islam, but the Prophet Muhammad ordered the destruction of all idols and icons of the Divine. There were a number of frescoes painted on the inner walls of the Kabah, the ancient granite shrine in the centre of Mecca, and one of them, it is said, depicted Mary and the infant Jesus. Immediately Muhammad covered it reverently with his cloak, ordering all the other pictures to be destroyed except that one.
This story may surprise people in the west, who have regarded Islam as the implacable enemy of Christianity ever since the crusades, but it is salutary to recall it during the Christmas season when we are surrounded by similar images of the Virgin and Child.
I have written a couple of times in my column in the Hürriyet daily that as we engage with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party canker in the Southeast, a far-reaching movement in the depth is taking root among the regions’ people: Hezbollah.
I have written a couple of times in my column in the Hürriyet daily that as we engage with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) canker in the Southeast, a far-reaching movement in the depth is taking root among the regions' people: Hezbollah.
Unlike the PKK, the movement, at least for now, is not resorting to violence. It directly addresses the social structure and deals with poverty.
It brings health and education services to the citizens and gives them food.
Its method is very similar to the Hezbollah of Lebanon or to that of Hamas in Palestine.

Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, today warned that al-Qa'eda poses a greater threat to civilian life than the Nazis did during the Second World War.
|Warning: Sir Ian Blair
Warning of a possible attack this Christmas, he said that the terrorist threat to Britain from Islamic extremists was "unparalled and growing".
He added that neither the IRA nor the Russians during the Cold War were willing to take civilian life to the same degree as al-Qa'eda.
But he appeared to backtrack slightly from comments made earlier this month by John Reid, the Home Secretary, that a terrorist attack over the festive period was "highly likely".
Sir Ian told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme that the police had "no specific intelligence", although the threat was "ever present".

Iran dispenses to the members of this coalition a lot of oil money and weapons. As the international pressure mounts on Iran to come clean on its nuclear program, Iranian surrogates are stirring up conflicts to divert attention from the nuclear issue. The July 12, 2006 Hizbullah provocation on Israel's border, the ongoing conflict in Gaza after Israel's total withdrawal, and the increased sectarian violence in Iraq in which Jeish Al-Mahdi and the other Shi'ite militias financed by Iran play a key role, are examples of Iran seeking to instigate violence in three critical areas in the Middle East - Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine.
The most recent example of instigating violence are the street demonstrations and sit-ins that are part of the declared goal of Hizbullah to overthrow the Lebanese government, by force if necessary - a government that was democratically elected and enjoys a clear majority in parliament. What brings together the various groups of demonstrators outside the sarai (central government headquarters in Beirut) is the determined attempt to forcibly change the political landscape in Lebanon for the primary purpose of frustrating an international effort to bring to trial those high-level officials associated with the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Al-Hariri. The trial could implicate high-level Syrian and Lebanese officials as well as the principal Syrian collaborator in Lebanon, President Emile Lahoud, whose term as president was unconstitutionally extended for two years under pressure of the Syrian government when its army was still occupying Lebanon. Lahoud echoes faithfully the Syrian and Hizbullah positions, including the spurious argument that the Lebanese government of Fuad Al-Siniora is illegitimate.
The battle for control of Somalia by the Islamic Courts Union has spilled over into an international conflict with Ethiopia and poses a significant threat to the entire Horn of Africa region. Daveed Gartenstein-Ross has posted on some of the details of the military activities.
Yesterday Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, the ICU leader most closely indentified with al Qaeda and bin Laden, said Somalia was now at war with Ethiopia and that “All Somalis should now take part is this struggle against Ethiopia.” The statement came the day after an EU envoy happily proclaimed that both sides had agreed to negotiate an end to the hostilities and that peace was at hand. Someone must be living in an alternate universe where pledges made by radicals with a history of duplicity are viewed binding.
The spread of this war is by design, not accident. In his statement earlier this week (as translated by Laura Mansfieldal Qaeda leader Ayman Zawahiri went out of his way to signal support for the Islamist movement in Somalia, saying “Brothers in Islam and jihad in Somalia, know that you are the southern garrison of Islam, so don’t allow Islam to be attacked from your flank and know that we are with you and the entire Muslim Umah is with you.”
There are a few other memorable statements in this New Duranty Times (aka New York Times) article about Saudi nervousness over Iran, but that was the best one. There is also a great deal here about the Sunni-Shia rift that will continue despite our efforts to paper over it. "Bickering Saudis Struggle for an Answer to Iran’s Rising Influence in the Middle East," by Hassan M. Fattah in the Times, with thanks to all who sent this in:
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Dec. 21 — At a late-night reading this week, a self-styled poet raised his hand for silence and began a riff on neighboring Iraq, in the old style of Bedouin storytellers.
“Saddam Hussein was a real leader who deserved our support,” he began, making up the lines as he went. “He kept Iraq stable and peaceful,” he added, “and most of all he fought back the Iranians.” He continued, “His one mistake was invading Kuwait.”
Will der Islamisie- rung Europas aktiv entgegentreten: Dr. Udo Ulfkotte.
Peculiarities marked the career of Saparmurat Niyazov, the hard-line dictator who ruled Turkmenistan for twenty-one years until his unexpected death on December 21 (AP). Even as nearly 60 percent of this gas-rich, largely Muslim Central Asian country lived in poverty, Niyazov funded lavish projects (Guardian), including an ice palace outside the capital, Ashgabat, and a manmade lake in the middle of a desert. But the self-obsessed Niyazov, architect of one of the world’s most bizarre personality cults, failed to name a successor. This raises questions about the prospects of a reprieve for the country’s beleaguered citizens, and leaves in doubt Europe’s energy security (FT).
Obituaries have emphasized that Niyazov—known as Turkmenbashi, or ruler of all Turkmen—governed the nation with the fifth largest national gas reserves (BBC) in the world. His decision to invest in gilded statues of himself rather than infrastructure left Turkmenistan reliant on Soviet-era pipelines run by Gazprom, Russia’s largest company and the world’s biggest natural gas producer. Only Russia and Iran directly purchase gas from Turkmenistan (map). But the broader importance of the Central Asian energy source was underscored during a near crisis last winter. In a January 2006 gas price row with Kiev, Moscow cut off supplies to Ukraine and European deliveries were also imperiled. A complex deal provided Ukraine with adequate, and relatively cheap, supplies from Turkmenistan (RFE/RL).

Tensions in the province have been increasing as U.N.-mediated negotiations are under way to resolve Kosovo's future status. The province's ethnic Albanian majority wants full independence, but Belgrade wants to retain some control over what it considers a crucial part of Serbia.
The U.N. envoy facilitating months of so far inconclusive talks between the bitterly divided sides is due to make a final recommendation early next year on the province's future.
The French and the Russians are bickering over a set of utterly useless proposed sanctions against Iran: Paris warns against ‘altering’ Iran sanctions. (Hat tip: Ron.)
PARIS, Dec 20, 2006 (AFP) - The French government Wednesday warned against any attempt to “alter the scope” of proposed UN sanctions over Tehran’s nuclear programme, after Moscow said it opposed some of the measures.
“It is important to preserve the unity of the Security Council, but not if that means altering the scope of the resolution,” foreign ministry spokesman Denis Simmoneau told reporters.
“That is why discussions are continuing, notably on what shape to give to restrictive measures against entities and persons responsible for sensitive activities targeted,” he said.
“We are still following the timeline we set ourselves,” which was to secure a Security Council vote on the text before Christmas, he said.
Yesterday the Brussels judiciary searched the offices of the Muslim Executive of Belgium (MEB). The MEB is an official organisation, whose 17 members are democratically elected by the Belgian Muslims. It acts as the official representative of the Belgian Muslims and distributes the government subsidies to support the Islamic religion. At least 33,000 euros have disappeared from the books of the MEB. Last week, the MEB offices were also searched after it was discovered that the MEB transferred money to the bank account of Nizar Trabelsi, a convicted terrorist who is serving a prison sentence of ten years for an attempt to bomb an American military base.
According to the MEB the money was given to Trabelsi for humanitarian reasons. The MEB said he needed to buy additional food and drink in prison.
In September, a Muslim woman teacher at the Vader Rijn College in Utrecht was suspended. The reason given by the school's principal, Bart Engbers, was that the teacher refused to shake hands with males. The school is a vocational college. It has an intake of 700 students, 80% of whom are of Moroccan or Turkish background. The woman had worked at the college for a year before being asked to stay home. She had only decided not to shake hands with males upon her return from the 2006 summer vacation.
Bart Engbers said then: "If she doesn't want to shake hands at home, fine. But everyone is welcome at this school. Discussion is great, but religious and political flag-waving must stay at home."
"We are preparing our boys and girls for the labour market. We all know how fragile the situation is for allochtone (non native Dutch) young people. Therefore it is good that they shake hands during a job interview. We believe that is important."
To many, the statements of al-Zawahiri and other radical Islamists on elections and jihad can be interpreted as the rantings of mad mullahs who hate freedom and the West.
But a careful reading of Islamist texts, provided by such authors as Andrew Bostom and Mary Habek (Knowing the Enemy) show that these reponses are entirely rational within the jihadi world view. This theology and ideology were developed centuries before Israel came into being and long before Western liberal democracies gained currency in the world.
The rationale, taken from Wahhab, Qutb, al Banna and others is simple: Only the Quran, as interpreted by these groups, can guide the world, providing a religious, political and legal handbook that cannot be abridged. Anything that is contrary to these interpretations of Allah’s law-including the statements in the Quran itself that speak less harshly of Jews and Christians, deemed to have been made under specific historic conditions no longer applicable-are punishable by death.

A second airline is embroiled in a religious row after a stewardess decided to take bmi to an employment tribunal because it refused to allow her to carry a Bible on flights to Saudi Arabia.
The stewardess, who has not been named, claims that she has been subject to discrimination because of her faith.
She is understood to have deep religious convictions and carries a Bible with her at all times.
But bmi, which is the only British scheduled carrier to fly to the country after British Airways pulled out of the route, insisted that it was only following Foreign Office advice.
The dispute has erupted as British Airways seeks to settle its own dispute with Nadia Eweida, a Heathrow check-in worker, who has been banned from wearing a cross on a necklace while on duty.
A spokesman for bmi said the airline was complying with Saudi law and added that the stewardess had been offered the opportunity to switch to working on its short-haul routes. It could not, however, alter its long-haul rosters to accommodate her.
Britain's border controls were condemned as "non-existent" today after it was claimed that the suspected murderer of a policewoman fled the country by disguising himself as a veiled Muslim woman. Police reportedly believe that Mustaf Jamma, a prime suspect in the fatal shooting of Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, used his sister's passport and wore a full niqab to evade checks at Heathrow airport.
Shadow Home Secretary David Davis insisted there should be an urgent inquiry.
At the time of the 26-year-old's apparent escape between Christmas Day last year and New Year's Day, he was one of the UK's most wanted men and the airport was on high alert in the wake of the July 7 bombing attacks. But it is thought that staff rarely ask those departing Britain to remove veils in order to make sure their identification is valid.
"Jihad and the rifle alone: no negotiations, no conferences and no dialogues."
- Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Azzam
Dr Abdullah Yusuf Azzam is credited with being the Intellectual wellspring from which the modern Jihadist movement drinks. Though he stands on the shoulders of others who came before, it is his ideas that have been the primary influence of some of the most notorious Jihadists today.
Azzam obtained a PhD in fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) at al-Azhar University, Egypt, in 1973, where he became friends with the Qutb family, Sheikh 'Umar Abd el-Rahman2 and Ayman al-Zawahiri. He became a lecturer at Amman University but was obliged to leave due to his radical views, and resumed his academic career as a lecturer at Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia, where he influenced a generation of Saudis, including Usama bin Laden.3
Also known as Shaikh Azzam, he wrote In Defense of Muslim Lands in 1979; at fatwa declaring Jihad in Palestine and Afgahnistan. According to the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point
On Monday evening, Dec 18, 2006, the Irish State-owned RTE 1 TV, on its flagship current affairs investigative program, "Prime Time", after the main 9-9.30 PM evening news, broadcast a 1-hour report on the Jihadi risk within Ireland. It quoted from intelligence reports, both police [Garda ] and military [G-2] sources, and interviewed on-air recently retired US experts, such as John Brennan, 2004-05 chief of their National Counter-Terrorism Center, and Dan Coleman, ex-FBI OBL Unit, as well as many Muslim figures in Ireland. The program research seemed very thorough, balanced and comprehensive in range, and led substantial weight to the extremely disturbing conclusions which emerged.
Prime Time estalished five central and troubling issues.
Firstly, there is a Jihadi propaganda operation active in Ireland.
Secondly, there is, within the Muslim community in Ireland, high-level sympathy for Jihad.
Thirdly, there is a small [15%-19%] element in this community, which supports such terror.
Fourthly, several active Jihadi terrorists have been identified with Irish links.
Fifthly, a significant Al-Qaida figure is based in Dublin for some 25 years, and has acquired Irish citizenship.
Second-generation Muslim immigrants in Europe marry people who have arrived straight from their parents’ homelands, rather than immigrant youths of their own ethnic background who have also grown up in Europe. Research by Hilâl Yalçin and Ina Lodewyckx of the University of Antwerp reveals that almost three quarters of the Moroccan and Turkish community import their spouses from Morocco and Turkey.
“Marital import” is on the rise. In the 1970s 41.4% of the Moroccan immigrants in Flanders, the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, married a partner who lived in Morocco, while almost all the others married a member of the Moroccan immigrant community in Belgium. In the 1980s the number of spouses arriving fresh from Morocco had risen to 48.8%. In the 1990s that number rose even further to 60.3%. Between 2000 and 2003, 65.4% of Belgian Moroccan youths imported a spouse from Morocco. The figures are even higher for Turks. Today, eight out of every ten Turkish youths whose family emigrated to Flanders between their 7th and 17th year of age marry someone who lives in Turkey. And six out of every ten Turks who were born in Belgium or moved there before their 7th birthday do so, too.

. See the trailer here
Hat tip to Michael Travis
First a little background on Pierre Rehov.
With his French passport, Arabic features, and a digital recorder, Rehov went into the territories (which are forbidden to Israeli citizens) posing as a French tourist and began an undercover investigation of what is really going on behind the scenes. He has thus far produced six documentaries from the "tourist attractions" he visited in the territories: A War of Images, which reveals shocking images of incitement displayed on Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Television network; The Trojan Horse, which betrays Arafat's true intentions and shows rare footage of Palestinian leaders advocating the eradication of the Jewish state and the extermination of the Jewish people, and his film The Holy Land: Christians in Peril, which exposes the true story behind the Church of Nativity confrontation and reveals the dangers for Christians living under Islamic rule, he then filmed The Road to Jenin, that shows there was no massacre in Jenin, as some Palestinians claimed. Silent Exodus, which tells the little known story of the plight of the million Jews who had to leave the Muslim countries their families had lived in for centuries. Hostages of Hatred that gives all the real data about the Palestinian refugees, a question that is not as well known as it might be imagined.
Sociologist Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Heitmeyer is the director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Conflict and Violence Research at the University of Bielefeld.
An article in the "conservative" newspaper DIE WELT from December 14 sheds some light on one of his ongoing projects:

Workers in the building of the General Intelligence Service, north of the city of Gaza and the population around the place today, appealed to citizens go to the place and the work of a human wall to protect (those) trapped in the building.
One of the officers present at the scene said the executive elements of the force and members of the "Hamas" armed with weapons and mortars surround the building in preparation for the bombing, pointing out that more than 150 persons working trapped in the building. (13:40 GMT)
|An interesting editorial in Asharq Al-Awsat, in English, shows that even fanatical anti-Israel Arabs understand Hamas better than pseudo-intellectual European liberals:
We have witnessed Hamas's concept of democracy since it came to power, with its first order of business being the improvement of Palestinian television because its artistic value was not up to its standards! This is Hamas's concept of democracy!
Unfortunately, the kind of relationship Hamas and other groups such as Hezbollah and Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood have with democracy is on the same par as someone sitting behind the wheel of the newest, top of the line automobile, whilst being unable to drive.
You may remember the story
of the retired minister doused himself in gasoline and set himself alight
(D) in a desperate protest against the lack of attention in Germany and Europe as a whole
to the creeping islamisation of Europe.
In the aftermath Der Spiegel had an interview
(D) with the poor ministers boss, Axel Noack Bishop of Saxony. The thing was published November 3rd. The reason I bring it to your attention now is 1) I have missed it completely when it was first published and 2) The Editrix posted a translation
of some key excerpts.
I encourage you to head over and read the whole thing
, but one thing stood out:
SPIEGEL ONLINE: Vicar Dietrich Bonhoeffer was executed because of his support for the members of the resistance group behind the July 20, 1944 events. Is such a tradition of steadfastness strong enough in the thoughts and deeds in today's church? Does the church have potential for resistance?
This comes to us from our Exploiting the Natural Fissures Department. "Sudan: Islamists Accuse Iran of Promoting Shiitism," from AKI, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
Khartoum, 19 Dec. (AKI) - Sunni Islamists in Sudan have accused Iran of trying to spread its brand of Shiite Islam in the East African country through a propaganda campaign. The Sudanese chapter of the Muslim Brotherhood organisation in a meeting with authorities in Khartoum on Monday said it had presented evidence of Teheran's attempts to convert locals to Shiitism. "It's a large scale plan conceived by Shiite groups and local organisations with the objective of spreading Shiitism in Sudan," a spokesman for the group told the Arab daily al-Hayat.
Sunni groups have denounced what they say is a "Shiite peril" and the opening of several Shiite mosques in Khartoum.

THE Melbourne Islamic school where three students desecrated a Bible is a potential breeding ground for extremists, says a former principal of the school.
Peter Moxham has accused the Victorian Government of failing to adequately monitor the East Preston Islamic College, which he says has been in a parlous state for years.
The Australian has learnt that EPIC was forced to repay tens of thousands of dollars in government funding this year after a federal government investigation found the school had overstated the number of its students. The school receives about $3.9million a year in state and federal funding.
) A Saudi intelligence official told ABC News that if his government decided, as King Abdullah has threatened, to help the Sunni community defend itself against Shia militias in Iraq, they would start by "cleaning up" the volatile Anbar province of its al Qaeda networks.
"We will clean up Anbar village by village because we don't want them to have a rear base in Iraq to attack Saudi Arabia," says the source, who adds that Saudi intelligence has already laid out extensive networks in Anbar province, where a Sunni insurgency has gained a stronghold.
The Saudi security services share tribal affiliations with tribes from Yemen to Syria. They make extensive use of these links to exchange information, lay down intelligence networks and monitor the activities of al Qaeda in the region.
A British intelligence source told ABC News that Saudi Arabia has always kept its tribal links to Iraq active, especially under Saddam Hussein, whose Baathist regime they considered a threat. Since 2003, Saudi intelligence has used these networks in Anbar to collect intelligence on al Qaeda's activities.

A few days ago, reader Kepiblanc notified us in the comments about a November 29th article in Die Welt
called “The Protestant Church in Germany sets up guidelines for dialogue with Muslims”
. Kepiblanc gave us this summary:
In short: Europeans must demand Muslims to respect certain values. Schoolteachers wearing head scarves are unfit to teach. Jewish and Christian symbols can be displayed in schools, because they don’t conflict with the values in Germany’s constitution. Nuns who teach can wear their order’s dress if they so prefer. Oppression of women, honor killings, female genital mutilation, and forced marriages are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated in a democratic society. No person can claim cultural identity as an excuse for violating human rights. And so on and so forth…
The Muslims in Germany aren’t happy.
Washington Times: Iran has effectively created a Shi'ite "state within a state" in neighboring Iraq, defying both Iraqi Sunnis and neighboring Sunni nations, according to a Saudi security report.
Iranian military forces are providing Shi'ite militias with weapons and training, Iranian charities are pouring funds into schools and hospitals, and Tehran is actively supporting pro-Iranian Iraqi politicians, the report said.
"Where the Americans have failed, the Iranians have stepped in," said the report by the Saudi National Security Assessment Project, a Riyadh-based consultancy commissioned by the Saudi government to provide security and intelligence assessments.
The report, submitted to the Saudi government in March, has not been publicly distributed.
Citing interviews with intelligence and military officials in Iraq and surrounding region, the report states that the Sunni insurgency numbers about 77,000, while the Shi'ite militia forces total about 35,000.
The results of Iran’s elections for local councils and the powerful Assembly of Experts have been tensely awaited as the first test of the president’s popularity since he took office last year.
DEBKAfile’s Tehran sources report that his followers, seeing which way the wind was blowing, took matters in their own hands. Backed by armed Revolutionary Guards, they stormed the counting sessions Monday, Dec. 18, using threats and physical harassment to force the counters to falsify the results and reverse the gains.
Sixty hours after balloting ended, when only 10 percent of the returns to the key Tehran city election had been counted, the publication of further results was suspended.
Four prominent Iranians, including ex-presidents Hashem Rafsanani and Mohammed Khatami, protested that vote-rigging was taking place.
|Palestinian Media Watch caught a column by Mahmoud Al-Habbash for the PA newspaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadeedah where he blames the Arab leadership squarely for the Palestinian Arabs leaving their homes in 1948.
“…The leaders and the elites promised us at the beginning of the “Catastrophe” [[the establishment of Israel and the creation of refugee problem] in 1948, that the duration of the exile will not be long, and that it will not last more than a few days or months, and afterwards the refugees will return to their homes, which most of them did not leave only until they put their trust in those “Arkuvian” promises made by the leaders and the political elites. Afterwards, days passed, months, years and decades, and the promises were lost with the strain of the succession of events…" [Term "Arkuvian,” is after Arkuv – a figure from Arab tradition - who was known for breaking his promises and for his lies."] ”
... by the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia
(EUMC). This is theshining light in the darkness that revealed the shocking truth of harassment of muslims after 9/11 (there hardly was any
) or the backlash that the UK muslim community suffered after 7/7 (there was none
). The curious thing about these reports, and one we will have to keep in mind for their newest production, is that for all the sound and fury of righteous indignation over the oppression of poor muslims in Europe the EUMC, by their own admission, did not find any severe, population wide anti-muslim sentiments or efforts. Both reports can be summed up by: We didn't find any, but there was!
This time, they've been looking into the plight of muslims in Europe and surprise (not): islamophobia is rampant around Europe
. The official report can be found here

For decades the Saudis have sent out money and missionaries to establish radical West-hating madrassas and mosques all over the world. Many American mosques are controlled by the Saudis, and Saudi-funded Muslim "civil rights" organizations peddle a carefully tailored PR campaign about Muslim victimization to the American sucker media. All this serves the Wahhabi creed, one of the most reactionary movements in Islam. One result of Saudi fundamentalism is Al Qaida, Bin Laden and 9/11.
Next month, during the giant annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, the Saudi campaign to radicalize the Muslim world may come back to bite it in its ample rear. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims will travel in from Iran, according to Amir Taheri's Sunday article in the New York Post, and they may stage demonstrations --- or possibly even a coup attempt --- in Saudi Arabia. Ten to twenty percent of the Iranians might be Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's agents, making 20 to 40 thousand disciplined radicals amid the chaotic mobs of the Hajj.
Western officials including Colin Powell explained that the tsunami relief was supposed to win Muslim hearts and minds. And it's doing so -- one lashing at a time. "Tsunami survivors given the lash," by Michael Sheridan and Dewi Loveard in the TimesOnline, with thanks to all who sent this in:
WHEN people around the world sent millions of pounds to help the stricken Indonesian province of Aceh after the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004, few could have imagined that their money would end up subsidising the lashing of women in public.
But militant Islamists have since imposed sharia law in Aceh and have cornered Indonesian government funds to organise a moral vigilante force that harasses women and stages frequent displays of humiliation and state-sanctioned violence.
"Mujahedin fighters return to Spain from Iraq: report," from AFP:
MADRID - Mujahedin fighters have returned to bases in Spain after gaining combat experience in Iraq and are now a potential threat to European security, Spanish newspaper El Pais reported on Sunday.
Potential? Nah, they must be back to reconstitute La Convivencia.
According to El Pais the fighters worked alongside cells controlled by late Al Qaeda senior leader and Jordanian extremist Abu Musab Al Zarqawi, killed in June.
‘They are the new Trojan horse of Al Qaeda and its satellites on our territory and they are already preparing themselves,’ deputy director of the European police network Europol, Mariano Simancas, told El Pais.

Reader JDM has kindly translated this Danish newspaper article. He includes this introductory note:
This article is from today’s Information (aka “the paper for left-wing Danish intellectuals”). I can’t really explain (very well anyway) why I think it’s an important article, but something tells me it is.
And the article itself:
The Veil is Islamism’s Symbol
… and therefore comparable to Nazism’s swastika, claims Chahdorrt Djavann. There is a big job ahead to teach Muslim women to realize this, says the author of the book Toss the Veil.
This excellent editorial from an American university (Wayne State University) asks, as its title, "(Is) Iran today's Nazi state?" The essay then goes on to answer this question all too well in no uncertain terms.
It's heartening to see these sorts of counter-leftist thoughts being so openly displayed in a usual bastion of leftist thought, namely an American institution of 'higher learning'.
Opinion: Iran: Today’s Nazi State?
Students for Israel
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met with Hamas Authority leader Ismail Haniyeh on Dec. 1, according to the Israeli news source Arutz Sheva. The topics the men discussed included the “illegitimacy” of the “Zionist regime” that is the state of Israel, and the Palestinian people’s determination to continue vicious acts against Israeli civilians if their hopes for a “liberated” Jerusalem were ever to be realized.
There is another indicator that something may be in the works – Prince Turki’s abrupt resignation from his position as Saudi Ambassador to the United States.
When Turki was appointed to be Ambassador to the United States, in July 2005 I noted
that his movements seem to closely track major terror strikes.
- In July 1998, as head of Saudi intelligence, Turki reportedly traveled to Afghanistan and met with Taliban leaders (and possibly bin Laden) in Kandahar and arranges to send them 400 new pickup trucks. On August 7, 1998 al-Qaeda struck the U.S. Embassies in Nairobi and Dar-el-Salaam. Between the two bombings over 250 are killed and 5000 injured.
- In August 2001, two weeks before 9/11, Turki abruptly stepped down as head of Saudi intelligence (a position he had held since 1977) and shortly thereafter became the Saudi Ambassador to the U.K.
It is just a question of time before France will pull out entirely from Afghanistan. Now we have the news
that several hundred of the best French troops are to withdraw.
France plans to withdraw around 200 special forces from southern Afghanistan at the start of next year following a recent surge in violence, reported the French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche on Sunday.
The US are withdrawing troops as well, as NATO is supposed to take over more duties. NATO's effort is seriously hindered by national special interests
. And the coherency of a NATO force is in question. This is to be seen in light of the increased difficulties in the region. Of course this is the major reason for France to withdraw:
The Danish newspaper, Jyllandsposten, the originator of the cartoons, today has an article with this title:
Danish Jews are met with harassment
(article in Danish)
It takes time to translate, so let me just summarize:
- Danish Jews feel intimidated and are afraid to show their identity while being in the public
- Jews fear verbal and physical aggressions by Muslims
- At the synagogue the guards warn Jews leaving the synagogue to remove head dress and the star of David
- Jews no longer feel safe putting their children in Danish schools because of the Muslim children
- A Danish teacher of Jewish ancestry applying for a position was told by the headmaster of a Danish public school it would be better to change his name to something innocuous. He did not take the job
Gunfire continued Monday morning outside Fatah leaders Abbas and Dahlan’s residences.
Sunday night, Hamas gunmen snatched and shot dead the key Fatah intelligence officer Col. Adnan Rahmani in Sejaya. DEBKAfile reports Col. Rahmani was a member of Gaza's Palestinian preventive security agency commanded by Rashid Abu Shbak and Samir Mashrawi, two of Mahmoud Abbas’ and Mohammed Dahlan’s Fatah mainstays in Gaza.
After 3 Palestinians were killed and 20 injured, Generals Muhammed Ibrahim and Haron Shehata, heads of the Egyptian mission in Gaza, sought to impose a truce in Hamas-Fatah violence on Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniya. They warned him that if he demurred, Hamas officials would not be allowed to use Cairo international airport for their travels.
Of all the people who might be convicted of religious harassment, they convict a nun? Nun accused of religious harassment
A nun was convicted of religious harassment after ranting against 'terrorist' Muslims in the middle of London's busy Oxford Street.
Sister Ruth Augustus, 66, was fined £200 after she shouted at two women in full robes and veils "you're probably terrorists, get back to your own country".
Later she told cops who arrested her they should go back to Iraq and have their heads chopped off.
City of Westminster Magistrates Court heard how trouble flared when Augustus, a missionary who has worked with prostitutes in the developing world, was handing out prayer leaflets outside Debenhams department store on Easter Tuesday.
UK: Parents angered as every pupil is given halal school meals
It's easier that way, just as in the case of the cemetery that decided to bury everyone facing Mecca: the Muslims stand for something, you see, and the non-Muslims don't. So the path of accommodation is easiest -- for those bereft of any sense of the value of their own culture and traditions.
"Parents angered as every pupil is given halal school meals," by Andrew Buckwell in the Daily Mail:
Halal meat is being served to pupils in state schools without their knowledge, even if they believe the religious slaughter is cruel.
Parents have reacted furiously after being sent letters telling them their children's school dinners have been all-halal for 'some time'.
I am a bit late with this, and you have probably already seen it, but I thought it was worth commenting on anyway. Anjem Choudhury of the Omar Bakri group of jihadists in Britain here appears on the BBC's Hard Talk (thanks to Hana). He is entirely ready to condemn attacks on innocent civilians, but he notes that because non-Muslims have rejected Islam, none of them are innocent. Therefore attacks like 9/11 and 7/7 are perfectly justified.
Choudhury can and no doubt does easily support his view from the Qur'an, in which Jews and Christians are under Allah's curse (9:30) and unbelievers are the "vilest of creatures" (98:6). In the face of this kind of thinking, we have seen British Muslim leaders condemn the killing of "innocent civilians." And in the U.S., we have received the much-publicized fatwa against terrorism issued by the Fiqh Council of North America, which declares: "Islam strictly condemns religious extremism and the use of violence against innocent lives."
Why isn't any law enforcement official asking Muslim leaders (in both the U.S. and Britain) to denounce in clear terms the statement by Anjem Choudhury, that no non-Muslim is innocent? And to follow up that denunciation with nationwide programs in mosques, teaching against the ideology enunciated here by Anjem Choudhury in unambiguous terms?

It's All About Israel Update. By Kim Barker in the Chicago Tribune, with thanks to Twostellas:
OUTSIDE NARATHIWAT, Thailand - Once they were friends, the chiefs of neighboring Buddhist and Muslim villages, separated by less than a mile of rice paddies and rubber-tree plantations.
Violence drove them apart. And when Muhammad Dunai Tanyeeno, the chief of the Muslim village of Jaroh, was gunned down Oct. 20, the chief of the Buddhist village of Saikaew was not even sad. None of the Buddhists of Saikaew went to Dunai's funeral.
"He was a good friend," said Yoon Yencheun, 51, the chief of Saikaew, who carries two guns with him whenever he leaves his village. "But when any Muslim dies, I'm happy. So many Buddhists have been killed by the Muslims."
This was brought to my attention by someone from my YouTube friends list.
If you have a YouTube profile and have posted anti-Islamic or anti-jihad videos, enter your user name into the search field, and much to your surprise it will bring you the "No Videos found for 'user name'"
But if you've been posting pro-Islamic and pro-jihad videos, then the search result will display all of your videos.
I check it out, it's true. Here are links to my YouTube profiles (EyeOnTheWorld
), both of them have the above mentioned anti-jihad videos, and here are links to search result pages for profile 1
and profile 2
. They come out empty.
I also checked out a couple of YouTube jihadist profiles, and what do you know? Their search result pages are filled with their videos.
What the hell is going on at YouTube?
This, if true, confirms what I thought was going on in the Hizbollah/Israel War. It seemed to me obvious that Bush was doing everything he could to publicly signal to Israel that they had our absolute support in attacking Syria, and possibly even Iran. I believe Bush was itching for Israel to broaden the war, with the hope that if it did so, something would happen which would have given the United States license to go at these two enemies directly.
Alas, Olmert is tone-deaf to hints, even the most obvious ones, and now, apparently, there are people within the administration who are, shall we say, less than pleased with the Israeli Administration
(here is an interview with) Meyrav Wurmser, co-founder of MEMRI and wife of David Wurmser, one of Dick Cheney’s top Middle East advisors. Nothing much surprising here except for her belief that defeating Assad would have destroyed the insurgency in Iraq.

The guns reached Fatah leader Mohammed Dahlan who handed them over to the faction’s suicide wing, al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, Abbas’ only reliable strike force. Dahlan is now in command of the armed campaign against Hamas from presidential headquarters in Ramallah. Israeli officials are turning a blind eye to transfer of the arms into the hands of the most badly-wanted masterminds of Fatah suicide killings, such as Jemal Tirawi from

A long time ago I read a short online piece about how women could get their men to put the toilet seat down. Inherent in it was the idea that this was an example of men’s lack of consideration and that the task at hand was one of disciplining these bad boys. I don’t know, my attitude is that if women can leave a toilet seat down, men can leave it up.
Of course, this is just a silly, pebble-in-the-shoe issue, but I see it as a metaphor for a modern phenomenon: The casting of women’s characteristic behaviors as the norm and men’s as dysfunctional deviations.
This is strikingly obvious with the topic of “communication.” Man has long known that women were the more loquacious sex, and you’ve probably heard of studies to this effect. A recent book states that women have about 20,000 “communication events” (I love these terms the psycho-babblers conjure up) a day, versus about 7,000 for men. But this is nothing new; who didn’t know a bevy of garrulous girls in school?
Once more, an article from Family Security Matters, which follows on from the earlier article on Mohammed Sawalha of the Muslim Association of Britain. This concerns a charity run by Sawalha's friend, Essem Yussuf (Essam Salih Mustafa Yussuf).
It is more than disheartening to know that our most staunch ally in the war against Radical Islam is Britain, but that Britain refuses to ban a charity that America itself has designated as a terrorist entity. FSM Contributing Editor Adrian Morgan calls on the UK Charity Commission to ban Interpal in this meticulously documented, hair-raising piece about them. If you see the light after reading this article, we suggest that you do the same. Contact information is at the end.
Nidra Poller had a bit of technical difficulty getting this one to us, so it is a bit delayed, but I believe it is still a timely riposte to yet another display of courage against the errors of nobody in particular by the intrepid Ralph Peters:
Ralph Peters stepped down from his pedestal the other day to hit the blogosphere up ‘side the head and soar back up to the heights of the New York Post. He wanted us to know that he doesn’t have to stoop so low. Le Monde used the same technique recently to deride blog-revelations of fauxtography and Hizbullah-staged news during the July-August war against Israel. The material had already been circulating for over a month (except in the French media) when Le Monde squeezed out an article about one or two of the minor hoaxes only to shoot down the blogs that had done the footwork. Photo editors from reputable media and wire services were quoted as saying that the bloggers don’t understand anything about photos, war, media, camera angles, and smoke. It makes sense? The photo editor who didn’t notice the photoshopping is smarter than the blogger who did.
Last October 21 I spoke at the Ayn Rand Institute’s conference “The Jihad Against the West” in Boston. There I had the privilege of hearing a tremendous address by John Lewis, an assistant professor of history at Ashland University and contributing editor of The Objective Standard, where you can read that address now. A very small sampling:
Our military capacities are not in doubt today. It is our moral self-confidence that is in question. What was it that stopped us from confronting Iran in 1979, except a lack of confidence in our own rightness, and an unwillingness to defend ourselves for our own sakes? Had we removed the Iranian regime in 1979, thousands of Americans would have been saved, and children across the world would not have grown up with sword verses rising in their minds as they give their lives to jihad. Consider the Japanese—and ask whether it would have been in our interest to have left the regime of 1945 in power, to continue preaching religious militarism and training kamikaze. The best thing Americans did for themselves (and, incidentally, the kindest thing for the Japanese) was to burn that regime to the ground. So it is today. The Islamic State—Totalitarian Islam—must go. And it is the moral responsibility of every American to demand it.
Don't fail to read it all.

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist opposition group an 880-member bloc in parliament, dances a delicate pas-de-deux with the government. Sometimes it clears its opposition activities with state security, and sometimes it challenges the government head-on.
So what do we make of this report that students aligned with the Brotherhood chose to hold a karate and kung-fu demonstration outside the dean's office of a major state university? 180 students were arrested, according to the Brotherhood's website (in Arabic), along with the number two man in the organization and others.
The Egyptian government operates a kind of "revolving door policy" for top Brotherhood leaders: they get tossed in the slammer when they cross certain red lines, but are periodically released, presumably for promising good behavior.
Hamas leaders said Friday: “Abu Mazen and Fatah have declared war on Allah. Whoever joins them is a shahid.” They authorized the assassination of Fatah leader Mohammed Dahlan, accusing him of orchestrating an attempt on the life of Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniya, as his convoy entered Gaza Thursday night, Dec. 14. A bodyguard was killed and five members of his party injured, including Haniya’s son. Hamas vowed “to even the score”.
The Hamas prime minister returned home from a two-week absence carrying $31 million of the quarter of a billion dollars Iran donated to bankroll his organization's buildup for jihadist war. After Israel ordered the Rafah crossing from Egypt to Gaza closed, hundreds of Hamas militiamen seized control of the terminal directing heavy gunfire at the European monitors and Abu Mazen’s Force 17 presidential guard. Both fled. Thursday night, Haniya was finally allowed to enter Gaza after leaving the suitcases packed with cash behind in Sinai. It was then that Force 17 shot up the convoy.
Was soll bekräftigt werden?
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP
) — Gunmen allied with Hamas and Fatah clashed at a West Bank mosque and in Gaza Strip streets on Friday, deepening factional violence a day after gunmen shot at the convoy of Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas.
The street battles
came as Hamas accused a powerful Fatah leader of orchestrating the attack on Haniyeh - and a powerful Hamas politician called for the Fatah strongman's assassination. Leaders of both groups have warned that the spiraling violence threatens to bring the Palestinians to civil war.
The clashes in Gaza City and the West Bank town of Ramallah marred celebrations Friday marking the 19th anniversary of Hamas' founding. However, the Islamic militant group pushed ahead with its rallies, and about 70,000 loyalists gathered at a stadium in Gaza City, cheering wildly, sobbing and firing in the air when Haniyeh arrived flanked by more than 50 armed bodyguards.

Thousands of 'Palestinians' are fleeing from Gaza to escape the constant strife and poverty there. While many of them say they are heading for Cuba, the Washington Times reports that many of those get off on the way, tear up their travel documents, and seek asylum in Europe
, where the rules are quite liberal. What I find most curious about this article is that there is not even a mention of 'Palestinians' seeking to go to Arab countries (other than to transit through Egypt), which ought to give you some indication of how much their fellow Arabs love the 'Palestinians.'
Driven by fear of civil war and increasingly bleak economic prospects, Palestinians are fleeing their violence-wracked lands in growing numbers, and travel agents report brisk demand for visas to Cuba, one of the few places that welcomes Palestinians.
Many of the emigrants are skilled and educated, who are leaving behind an increasingly impoverished and fundamentalist society.
Milli Görüs, Germany’s largest Islamic association, recently gained the official support of the Turkish government, despite being watched by German intelligence services due to alleged extremist leanings.
On April 19, Turkey’s religious-conservative government ordered its embassies to offer the Islamische Gemeinschaft Milli Görüs (IGMG) their support. The group, formed in 1985 in Cologne to support Turkish nationalism and oppose the separation of state and religion, has long been criticized by German officials as being anti-Semitic and against liberal Western values.
Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül on Saturday refused to discuss his specific directions to diplomats regarding Milli Görüs, saying only the government “has for some time tried to strengthen the ties between our country and our citizens overseas.”
Israel briefly closed the border between Rafah and Egypt today, to stop Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh from entering the territories with $35 million in cash from terror-supporting Arab states—many of whom are putatively US “allies:” Israel: Haniyeh can enter Gaza, but without millions in cash. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)
Israel agreed Thursday evening to allow Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh to cross from Egypt into the Gaza Strip, but without the $35 million in cash he had brought from a tour of Muslim states.
Defense Minister Amir Peretz had earlier instructed the Israel Defense Forces to stop Palestinians entering Gaza via the Rafah border crossing, in order to prevent Haniyeh from crossing with the money.

Did you know that Finland has an annual quota for refugees?
No, I don’t mean a limit
. It’s not a ceiling on the number of refugees that can be admitted to the country. It’s a target
that the Finnish government is supposed to meet. According to the English-language edition of Helsingin Sanomat
Finland has taken in fewer refugees than its quota calls for almost every year in the present decade. The annual quota of 750 refugees has fallen short by 50-100 individuals in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005.
The impending shortfall this year aroused considerable public debate earlier this month, with officials of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Labour blaming each other.
As a follow-on from the FSM article on the links between the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) with both the Muslim Brotherhood and the terrorist group Hamas, we have more news on the Scottish spokesman for MAB. Osama Saeed has, according to JTA, compared the condition of British Muslims to those of the Jews in pre-war Germany.
The irony that the head of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yussuf al-Qaradawi, supports suicide attacks against Jewish civilians in Israel, and one of the spokespeople for MAB, Mohammed Sawalha, was formerly a fundraiser for Hamas, seems to be lost on Osama Saeed.
He states: "Hitler was a product of German society, where anti-Semitic attitudes had existed unchecked for decades. We have got to listen and learn from what happened there and be vigilant."
"I am not talking about large numbers of people being rounded up, but we could be looking at situations where Muslims are routinely assaulted in the streets."
Mr Ahmadinejad! With All The Problems Facing Your Country, You Are Not Even In A Position T
"Mr. Ahmadinejad! The world is bigger than these games; much bigger. I know that you, wherever you go, have tried to be at the center of every picture and interview, and will say anything to have your name repeated. But in a world in which people are amused by alien beings and talking octopuses and driving frogs for only one or two hours, these games do not last long. The game is nearing its end. Please stop."
"Who Gives you the Right to Consider Yourself the Representative of Iranians, But to Deny That Bush Represents the Americans?"
"The words that you use in your letter to the American people are appropriate for the Iranian ministry of foreign affairs. If you think that you can play with the Americans or Iranians or any other people through such empty and repetitive words you are wrong. America itself is a place for games. They have Hollywood. They create an Ahmadinejad in the morning and destroy him at night at the end of the story. For these and every other people such games continue only until you bury your head under the snow and think that others cannot see you. o Advise Other People

"Two Buddhists shot and killed by suspected Muslim insurgents in southern Thailand," by The Associated Press, with thanks to Twostellas:
BANGKOK, Thailand: Two men were killed Wednesday by suspected Muslim insurgents in southern Thailand who apparently targeted the victims because they were Buddhist, police said.
The first victim was identified as a 55-year-old rubber tapper, who was shot three times while driving his motorcycle by a gunman on the back of another motor bike, said police Maj. Suthas Noosrikong of Lammai police station in Yala province, where the attack occurred.
In FrontPage today I discuss the recent controversial remarks by Tony Blair, which turn out to be less than meets the eye (news links in the original):
British Prime Minister Tony Blair declared last Friday that “no distinctive culture or religion supercedes our duty to be part of an integrated United Kingdom.” He listed “respect for this country and its shared heritage,” along with “belief in democracy, the rule of law, tolerance, equal treatment for all,” as the things that “we hold in common” and give “us the right to call ourselves British.”
Philip Johnston, Home Affairs Editor of the Telegraph, termed this a “volte face” and noted that “just eight years ago” Blair “was a multiculturalist champion.” The prime minister’s speech, wrote Johnston, “was the culmination of a long Labour retreat from a cause it once enthusiastically embraced.” It was a retreat, he suggested, made necessary by the force of events: “In recent weeks, Jack Straw, Ruth Kelly, John Reid, and Gordon Brown have all played their part in a concerted revision of the Cabinet’s stand which began in earnest after the July 7 bombs in London last year.”
It is not a popular thing to say in public circles, but there is a growing awareness of the the nature of the Islamist threat to the United States and the West in the Pentagon and elsewhere.
In an interview with the Washington Times, Brig. Gen. Mark O. Schissler, deputy director for the war on terrorism within the strategic plans office of the Pentagon’s Joint Staff, stated that the enemy is “absolutely committed to the 50-. 100-year plan” to establish a caliphate.
This is not news. But this type of public assessment has been sorely lacking since 9-11. People in the Intelligence Community here and abroad, who read the jihadi literature and pay attention to what they say, know this. But there has been an extreme reluctance to make this case publicly and constantly, so people are aware of not only what the stakes are but of the need for an over-arching, long-term strategy.
Another example of why UN is useless.
(CNSNews.com) - U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan has urged the world body's human rights watchdog in Geneva to send a clear message that the "nightmare" in Sudan's Darfur must stop, but for many of the nations considering the crisis, his appeal seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
Envoys for Islamic, African and other developing member states taking part in a Human Rights Council special session on Darfur Tuesday in turn praised Khartoum for its "cooperation," and argued against any action against or condemnation of the Islamist government.
Some also took issue with the fact that Annan had delivered a message by video to the special session, complaining that he had not done so in the case of the three previous special sessions held by the six-month old council, all of which dealt with Israel and ended in condemnations of the Jewish state.
EU Referendum reports
French PM de Villepin is berating the European Central Bank for the hard euro. This has some serious consequences, especially for Euro exports. Now de Villepin is calling
for finance ministers of other member states to
clarify matters in exchange rate policy, which means taking back our sovereignty and our margin for action so the states can play their part
But not only that, in France voices are growing stronger for a return to the franc. Says Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, a minor presidential candidate:
Like Molière's doctor, the ECB is killing the patient in order to cure it. Given their obstinant (sic) refusal to face up to errors, it is time to prepare for a return to our own national monetary system
Now, the reason the EU has grown to what it is today is in no small part owed to the French using the EU (and the EU letting itself be used) to advance French interests. But it seems the EU has outgrown France and thus the French are losing interest and are starting to turn against it.
It is highly doubtfull the EU could survive a blow like that. Then again, we already knew the project was dying
, didn't we?
On Dec. 11, FT.com reported: “Oil producing countries have reduced their exposure to the dollar to the lowest level in two years and shifted oil income into euros, yen and sterling, according to new data from the Bank for International Settlements.”
A month ago, on Nov. 10, DEBKA-Net-Weekly 277 revealed: The Arab petrocrats have turned their backs on their main source of weapons and are dumping their US dollar reserves in favor of the euro and yuan. This trend is gaining strength in recent weeks (September and early October) causing the dollar to slump.
DEBKA-Net-Weekly added: (Since the Iraq debacle) Saudi Arabia and the oil emirates are in flight from their exclusive dependence on America and have plunged into strategic changes that will lead them to alternative powers able to bolster their security and stability.
A quote from Simon Peres at the LeWeb3 conference in Paris, 12 December 2006 (audio, video):
Governments don't control any more demography. They cannot keep their countries homogenous, because the minute a country is becoming rich the people are becoming lazy, they don't produce children so they don't have workers. So they have to bring in the workers from different societies, from different cultures. The idea of [the founding fathers of the] Europe[an Union] was in the beginning to have a Christian declaration, to keep Europe [...] generally Christian and basically Catholic. Today it is not Christian, it is Muslim. Look what happened: they closed all the windows and opened all the doors. [...] The Muslims are saying: "Why should I become a democrat? Being a Muslim is more important."

The number of rapes in the Norwegian capital Oslo is six times as high as in New York City. I’ve written about the issue of rape and Muslim immigration so many times that I am, quite frankly, a bit tired of the subject. But as we all know, problems don’t disappear just because you are tired of talking about them, so here goes.
There has been an explosive increase in the number of rape charges in the city of Oslo, but both the media and the authorities consistently refuse to tell us why. They did do so, however, in 2001, when two out of Norway's three largest newspapers, Aftenposten and Dagbladet, reported that most of these rape charges involve an immigrant perp, which again mostly means Muslims. Both newspapers have since then conveniently “forgotten” about this, and have never connected the issue to Muslim immigration although the number of rape charges has continued to rise to historic levels. They are thus at best guilty of extreme incompetence, since their former articles about this issue are still available online.

BRUSSELS, Belgium-European Union foreign ministers tentatively agreed Monday to reduce the EU peacekeeping force in Bosnia by more than half early next year, but stressed that a final decision would depend on the regional security situation.
If carried though, the cuts would reduce the force from 6,000 to 2,500 by May. However ministers left the final decision on the reduction until February, largely because of fears that renewed tension in Kosovo could trigger wider Balkan unrest.
In a statement, the ministers "underlined the continued need for an EU military presence to provide reassurance and to react to any possible security challenges."
Several developments towards the year’s end show what a good few months it has been for the worldwide jihadi movement. These are not marginal shifts in the success of the Salafist military project, but significant gains that demonstrate some of the contours of the growing, armed movement that would like to eliminate us.

In fact not a week goes by without a story of arrests of alleged terrorists, radical imams and cells preparing youngsters for the Jihad in Iraq.
Back at the end of November, authorities dismantled a cell in the same Casablanca slum where the fourteen bombers of the May 2003 originated. This cell composed of 13 men was headed by Abu Zubair Al Maghribi who had been watched by police for a few months because of his contacts with the Algerian terror group GSPC.He had recruited very rapidly 12 men, martyr candidates for the Jihad in Morocco and Iraq. In fact, they had planned to build a training camp in the Atlas mountains and had picked targets they could attack in Morocco. Including the British and US embassies and consulates alike.
On December 1, Morocco fired 31 imams for their radical sermons.
Incoming House intelligence chief botches easy intel quiz
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Silvestre Reyes of Texas, who incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has tapped to head the Intelligence Committee (replacing Jane Harman who was regarded as being too cooperative with the current admin) when the Democrats take over in January, failed a quiz of basic questions about al Qaeda and Hezbollah, two of the key terrorist organizations the intelligence community has focused on since the September 11, 2001 attacks.
When asked by CQ National Security Editor Jeff Stein whether al Qaeda is one or the other of the two major branches of Islam -- Sunni or Shiite -- Reyes answered "they are probably both," then ventured "Predominantly -- probably Shiite."
Words fail. They just fail.
"Hello from Fjordman. Here comes the second part of the essay, which will consist of at least five parts, explaining exactly why Islam is incompatible with democracy. It is published in cooperation with the Gates of Vienna blog. The first part is here."
According to Salim Mansur, associate professor of political science at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, "Democracy is in a cultural sense an expression of the liberal modern world that situates the individual as the moral center of politics and society. (…) It is the idea of the inalienable rights located in the individual, rights that need to be protected, nurtured, and allowed the fullest unhindered expression that makes democracy so morally distinctive from other cultural systems. From this liberal perspective, the common error about democracy is to view it as a majority system of governance. In a democracy based on individual rights, on the contrary, it is the protection of the rights of minorities and dissidents that reflect the different nature of politics within the larger context of democratic culture."

Middle East Quarterly
After Iraq's military defeat in 1991, many in the West and in Arab states hoped that changes in the world and region would produce a new Middle East of pragmatism, reform, democracy, and peace. Given the Soviet Union's collapse, growing democracy elsewhere, and U.S. emergence as sole superpower, a better world seemed imminent. A generation of Arabs had experienced defeat, tragedy, and stagnation. Surely, they would recognize what had gone wrong and choose another path.
But, increasingly, they show they have not. The euphoria of the 1990s—in light of Saddam's defeat in Kuwait, the Oslo process, and the growth of Arab civil society—was short-lived. For much of the current decade, events have pointed to a backward trend. First, there was Palestinian and Syrian rejection of peace with Israel in 2000 and then re-embrace of terrorism in the intifada. This was followed in quick succession by the fallout from the September 11 attacks, glorifying insurgency and terrorism in Iraq, crushing of internal liberal reform movements, and electoral advances by Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood.
Balkan. Islamisten gewinnen in Bosnien an Einfluss, moderate Moslems wehren sich.
SARAJEWO.

France's Transformation Into A Muslim State
In a classified report, the French military has concluded that a network of 25,000 Muslim fighters are participating in the worst violence in France in more than 40 years.
French interior minister
French Interior Minister Nicholas Sarkozy has been trying to contain an Arab uprising whose fighters have been trained in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Iraq and possess everything from light weapons to anti-aircraft missiles. In a classified report, the French military has concluded that a network of 25,000 Muslim fighters are participating in the worst violence in France in more than 40 years.
The report said the so-called mujahadeen, or holy warriors, have been trained in guerrilla warfare, light weapons and intelligence. Many of them are loyal to Al Qaida chief in Iraq, Abu Mussib Al Zarqawi and make a living from drugs, prostitution and loan-sharking. Sarkozy was not taken by surprise by the Muslim riots, sparked by the electrocution of two young Muslims fleeing police and hiding in a power substation in Paris.
Since anyone can edit Wikipedia, and there is little or no quality control, it is essentially worthless as a reference tool. To take just one example, as I have noted here before, my bio there is full of irrelevancy, ad hominem attacks, and unsubstantiated claims about inaccuracy in my work.
But that is no surprise, since ideologues are attempting to control the flow of information there -- and with good reason, since despite being a messy stew of truth, half-truth, and outright lies, Wikipedia is still widely infuential. This is exemplified by "The Solution Is Education," a letter that Larry Lowenthal, Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee, has written to the Jewish Advocate.
"The Solution Is Education." That's rich, since in this letter Lowenthal shows that he is learning from Wikipedia -- and specifically, from a piece written by none other than Dean Esmay, the raving blogger who has never hesitated to purvey falsehoods about my work, as well as to call me a liar, a traitor, and worse. Here is the relevant portion of Lowenthal's letter:
For peaceful purposes, of course. What would the cuddly little Arab states want with nuclear energy except to spread more peace, peace, peace all around? By Abdullah Shihri and Diana Elias for Associated Press, with thanks to James:
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - The oil-rich Arab states on the Persian Gulf announced Sunday that they are considering a shared nuclear program for peaceful purposes.
The statement at the end of a meeting of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council was likely to rachet up concerns about the danger of nuclear weapons spreading in the Middle East.
Iran is now the only Muslim country in the region with a nuclear program, and the U.S. and allies suspect it is secretly developing atomic weapons in violation of treaty commitments.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -
The Taliban gunmen who murdered two teachers in eastern Afghanistan early Saturday were only following their rules: Teachers receive a warning, then a beating, and if they continue to teach must be killed.
The new list of 30 rules, decided on during a high Taliban meeting in September or October and since circulated over the Internet, span from the organizational - no jihad equipment may be used for personal means - to the health conscious - militants are not supposed to smoke.
They also contain a grave warning for aid workers and educators.
Rule No. 24 forbids anyone to work as a teacher "under the current puppet regime, because this strengthens the system of the infidels." One rule later, No. 25, says teachers who ignore Taliban warnings will be killed.

The start of this story is on a muddy mat in the home of a poor watchmaker in southern Egypt, at the end of the 1920s. It continues with the murder of Sadat, and a series of assassinations, the climax of which is the vicious slaughter of Muslims by Muslims in the middle of prayers for the holiday of the sacrifice in a mosque in Egypt, and its end is the most frightening attack in history on the Twin Towers. The end for the time being, that is.
March 1928. The living room in the home of Ahmed El Bana, a watchmaker from the city of Mahmudia, in southern Egypt. His oldest son Hassan, age 22, waited till his parents went to sleep, and in the darkness of night brought in five friends, also called his brother, and said it was time to do something. Already from El Bana's call the friends could guess what awaited them. Even as a child El Bana used to paste Islamic posters on the walls of the houses in the streets of the city, cursed passers by who wore silk clothes or gold bracelets, composed songs and started vocal arguments with anyone who supported rights for women.
Sybilla Dekker gaat nederlaag VVD onderzoeken
zaterdag 9 december 2006 13:23
The Euro-Arab partnership favors the implementation of Islam in Europe, criminalizes any criticism of Islam and finally prepares a long term merger of the European Union with the Arab world.
Moreover, the European institutions have just created a new Foundation in order to perform these goals. It will promote change in education and culture with a large place to religion and the learning of arabic. Instead of focusing on science and modern knowledge, the European education will return to the early Middle Ages! The Foundation also aims to target the schools of journalism and to develop arabic TV channels in Europe. It means that this Foundation intends to influence children, scholars and journalists in the entire Europe.
These disclosures are so shocking that they seem incredible. Consequently, we extensively use links which report to the background papers.

The architect’s vision is of a 21st-century Alhambra, a place for prayer, education, debate and the celebration of Islamic culture. But the plan to build Europe’s biggest mosque beside the London 2012 Olympic Park is attracting opposition from the Muslim community.
The concern is not the building, but the activities of Tablighi Jamaat, the ultra-orthodox sect that is behind the huge mosque. A petition against the scheme, organised by Muslims in the East London borough of Newham, attracted 2,500 signatures in only ten days and is continuing to draw support.
It says that allowing Tablighi Jamaat to build the mosque would aggravate community tensions. Ruth Kelly, the Communities and Local Government Secretary, who is currently redrawing the Government’s approach to engagement with the Muslim community, is aware of the East London petition. She has the power to subject the plans to a public inquiry. The scheme for the mosque, drawn up by the award- winning architects, MYAA, envisages a complex containing an Islamic garden, school and prayer space for as many as 70,000 worshippers — 23 times greater than the capacity of Liverpool cathedral, Britain’s largest Christian place of worship.

PODGORICA, Montenegro-Montenegrin authorities on Thursday indicted 18 ethnic Albanians, including five living in the United States, for plotting an insurgency to carve out an autonomous region in the tiny Balkan republic.
The criminal charges were filed after 14 of the peopel were arrested on the eve of Montenegro's general elections three months ago, when they planned a series of "terrorist attacks," prosecutor Stojanka Radovic said.
Two U.S.-based members of the group, Vaselj Dedvukaj and Doda Ljucaj from the state of Michigan, are accused of funding the group, which allegedly intended to "use explosives and weapons for terrorist acts aimed at controlling ... military posts, police precincts and other important facilities" in an ethnic Albanian-populated eastern part of Montenegro.
CAIRO, Egypt - Private Saudi citizens are giving millions of dollars to Sunni insurgents in Iraq and much of the money is used to buy weapons, including shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles, according to key Iraqi officials and others familiar with the flow of cash.
Saudi government officials deny that any money from their country is being sent to Iraqis fighting the government and the U.S.-led coalition.
But the U.S. Iraq Study Group report said Saudis are a source of funding for Sunni Arab insurgents. Several truck drivers interviewed by The Associated Press described carrying boxes of cash from Saudi Arabia into Iraq, money they said was headed for insurgents.
Two high-ranking Iraqi officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the issue's sensitivity, told the AP most of the Saudi money comes from private donations, called zaqat, collected for Islamic causes and charities.
Some Saudis appear to know the money is headed to Iraq's insurgents, but others merely give it to clerics who channel it to anti-coalition forces, the officials said.
“The strategic decision to carry out 9/11 was made in the early 1990s, almost ten years before the barbaric attacks on New York
took place. The decade-long preparations—and the testing of America’s defenses and political tolerance to terrorism that took place before September 11th—were a stage in the much longer modern history of the jihadist movement that produced al-Qaeda and its fellow travelers. Decades from now, historians will discover that the United States, the West and the international community were being targeted by a global ideological movement which emerged in the 1920s, survived World War II and the Cold War, and carefully chose the timing of its onslaught against democracy.”
This quote is from an article written by Dr. Whalid Phares in the New Media Journal. In it she does an excellent job of describing the thereafter of war that the democracies will have to fight within over the next few decades. She identifies the current and future battlefields of the theater of war. Here are some brief details. Read it all.
Yesterday evening, the Dutch television program Nova caused considerable embarrassment in the Netherlands by revealing how the Turkish government influenced last months’ Dutch general elections. In an e-mail sent to thousands of ethnic Turks in the Netherlands the Turkish Ministry of Religious Affairs called on them to vote for Fatma Koser Kaya, a 38-year old woman whose family emigrated to the Netherlands when she was six years old. Koser Kaya is a member of the leftist “social-liberal” Democrats 66 (D66) party. On 22 November, D66 lost three of its previous six seats in Parliament. Koser Kaya, however, though only sixth on the list of D66 candidates, was elected as one of the party’s three parliamentarians thanks to the 34,564 individual votes she got, possibly as a result of the Turkish government’s interference.
Immigrants are known to overwhelmingly vote for candidates of their own ethnic group. Since they have often not integrated in the country where they have settled their loyalties lie with their countries of origin. This has created a situation where the immigrants in Western democracies become Trojan horses of foreign nationalism and religious fanaticism. This phenomenon became apparent in this year’s local elections in the Netherlands and in neighbouring Belgium. It tipped the balance in favour of parties that put forward immigrant candidates. At the same time, however, it worked to the disadvantage of indigenous candidates on these parties’ lists, causing considerable resentment among the latter.
Beirut, December 10 at 3 PM – A Mass Rally for a 'Second Phase' and 'Escalation of Actions to Topple the Government'
In recent days, Lebanese opposition leaders have been calling for an escalation in the current protest, and for a move to "the second phase" of actions to topple the Lebanese government headed by Prime Minister Fuad Al-Siniora. The sit-down demonstration in the heart of Beirut, which was declared by Hizbullah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah on November 30, 2006, is continuing.
The past few days have seen rioting and clashes between supporters of the opposition and supporters of the March 14 Forces. On December 3, a young Shi'ite man was killed in an exchange of gunfire between supporters of the two camps. The Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar, which is known to be close to Hizbullah, called him "the first shahid [martyr] of the National Unity Intifada.'" The Syrian government daily Al-Thawra has begun using the term "intifada" for the Beirut demonstration.
On December 6, 2006, the Lebanese National Opposition issued a communiqué calling for participation in a mass rally on Sunday, December 10, at 3 PM. The communiqué read: "The leadership of the national opposition is calling on its supporters... to prepare for new forms and ways of protest and nonviolent expression. We call on you to participate in a large popular rally in the heart of Beirut, at Al-Shuhada Square and Riyadh Al-Sulh Square, next Sunday at 3 PM. May this day be an historic and decisive day, a day on which the deaf ears and the blind eyes are opened and the legitimate demands answered..."
Tony Blair made a remarkable speech on multiculturalism and integration today; remarkable for its confusion. On the one hand he said immigrants have a responsibility to integrate -- to accept British values -- but on the other he also defended multiculturalism, saying it should be celebrated.
Well, no. Multiculturalism is the problem, not the solution. When you equate the cultural norms of a 7th century religion with the norms of a post-Enlightenment society you denigrate the latter.
What he should have said is that Britain will not tolerate Muslim social norms, will not accept Sharia law and will not allow Muslim religious schools to teach that other religions must be dominated.
Still, it's a start.
We've heard it now in Australia, the Netherlands, and Britain. Slowly the world is waking up to the crisis in its midst.
Time for Stephen to set the standard on Canadian values too.
Suffice it to say that two can play this game.
Muslims have set up a group called Oul-Al-Albab/Oul-Al-Absar at YouTube that targets videos and users critical of Islamist violence. YouTube's poorly thought out flagging procedures encourage dishonest users to lie about content in order to suppress videos with which they disagree. YouTube has refused to change the system, despite numerous complaints from users that certain groups, particularly those sympathetic to Islamic terrorism, are abusing it (screen captures).
The group members share information about YouTube users who create anti-Islamist terrorist videos and instruct members to flag the videos and users as "inappropriate," often getting the videos and/or users banned.

GHAZNI, Afghanistan - The gunmen came at night to drag Mohammed Halim away from his home, in front of his crying children and his wife begging for mercy.
The 46-year-old schoolteacher tried to reassure his family that he would return safely.
But his life was over.
He was partly disembowelled and then torn apart with his arms and legs tied to motorbikes. The remains were put on display as a warning to others against defying Taleban orders to stop educating girls.
Halim is one of four teachers killed in rapid succession by the Islamists at Ghazni, a strategic point on the routes from Kabul to the south and east which has become the scene of fierce clashes between the Taleban and United States and Afghan forces.
Maria van der Hoeven, the Dutch minister of Education, wants to withdraw subsidies from one of the two Islamic high schools in the country. The Islamitisch College Amsterdam (ICA) was established in 2001 and has 800 students. Van der Hoeven told the Dutch Parliament that she “wants to do everything possible to stop the subsidies to the school or to close the school down.” The minister says if the school wants to survive it has to reopen with a new school board. Employees at the school, who have meanwhile been fired, accused the school of channelling 60,000 euros of government subsidies to “extremist organisations outside the country.” Van der Hoeven confirmed that students at the school score very low (3.3 on a scale between 3 and 15). Critics say the school uses books which despise non-Muslims and preach hatred towards them. The minister said, however, the school can only be closed by August at the earliest because otherwise 800 students would lose their school halfway through the school year.

Document.no, Norway's largest independent weblog, reports that in Norwegian kindergartens, pigs in traditional fairy tales are now quietly being replaced with other animals. A person who visits kindergartens to read fairy tales experienced that in stories by Asbjørnsen and Moe, the Norwegian equivalent of the Brothers Grimm, the word pig had been replaced with fox. When she discovered the same thing happening in another kindergarten, she wondered whether this was a new policy.
In Sweden previously, the wording of several older books for children such as Pippi Longstocking has been changed to make them more "culturally sensitive."
Winnie the Pooh and Foxlet, anyone? Three Little Foxes? This little fox cried wee wee wee all the way home? The prodigal son tending the foxes?
How did this get past the editors at the Los Angeles Times? Islam gets concessions; infidels get conquered.
When Muslims conquer non-Muslim territories — such as Constantinople, not to mention all of North Africa, Spain and southwest Asia — those whom they have conquered as well as their descendants are not to expect any apologies, let alone political or territorial concessions.
Herein lies the conundrum. When Islamists wage jihad — past, present and future — conquering and consolidating non-Muslim territories and centers in the name of Islam, never once considering to cede them back to their previous owners, they ultimately demonstrate that they live by the age-old adage “might makes right.” That’s fine; many people agree with this Hobbesian view.
THE Saudi government is in talks to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets from the French regardless of how a dispute with the British over a rival £40bn (E59bn, $78bn) Eurofighter Typhoon contract is resolved.
It was feared that discussions over the Rafale jet, made by France’s Dassault Aviation, were being held as an alternative to the Eurofighter, but sources have told The Business that the Saudis want to buy the Rafale on top of the contract for the Eurofighter Typhoon.
The Kingdom is increasingly concerned about the worsening situation in the Middle East and has been buoyed financially by petrodollars. The French can deliver the Rafale quicker than the Eurofighters can be made. A senior Saudi source said: “Two things have changed in the five years since negotiations began with the British over Eurofighter. The Saudis now have more cash because of money from oil and the situation [with Iran] means it has a pressing need to bolster its airforce.”

The French weekly L'Express just revealed that Swiss authorities have established Total's responsibility in an Iranian oil scheme. Indeed a $39 Million account at the Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch et Cie bank in Geneva was recently flagged out because of potential illegal transactions.
Investigators found out that Total through its Geneva Credit Suisse account was feeding this account between 1998 and 2003. The Siakal account has as beneficial owner Iranian Bijan Dadfar who has interestingly no oil connections but happen to be a close associate of the Rafsanjani family. This $39 million bribe landed Total the juicy contract of South Pars. Interestingly, Total is already up to its neck in the Oil for Food scandal and two of its leaders are currently being prosecuted in Paris.
Also no one should be surprised that Total has been lobbying very hard the French government for avoiding to sanction the Iranian regime. Business interests are huge when it comes to Iran since France is Iran's second largest trading partner.

Just last week, we learned that three French Jihadis on their way to Iraq to kill US troops were arrested in Syria and shipped back to France. These three young men aged 19,20 and 31 were from Tours and attended the same Salafi mosque in that quite provincial town. Most worrisome for French authorities is the fact that they were not at all viewed as extremists and did not show on any list. Most troubling one of them Mustafa El Sanharawi comes from a well to do integrated family where his father is a heart surgeon, his mother a professor and three of his siblings are currently studying medicine. Also Mustafa was a brilliant student who had just been selected to study in one of the best engineering schools in Paris. This is a case in point which shows that the poverty/non integrated explanation, that so many commentators and experts alike like to cite when talking about the reasons of joining the Jihad, does not work.

Recently, Kuwaiti daily newspaper Al Seyassah quoted European intelligence sources as saying that "Syria has an advanced nuclear program" in a secret site located in the province of Al Hassaka, close to the Turkish and Iraqi borders. British sources quoted by "Al Seyassah" believe that "it is President Assad's brother, colonel Maher Assad, and his cousin Rami Makhlouf, who supervise the program". This program is based on the Iraqi material that Saddam Hussein's two sons shipped to Syria before and during the war against Iraq. This explains, according to the daily newspaper, why international investigative teams found no proof of the program.
Furthermore, the British sources in Brussels affirm that "Iranian nuclear experts contribute to the Syrian program along with sixty Iraqi experts who had taken refuge in Syria since 2003 and experts from the ex-Soviet republics". British intelligence also confirm that this information is validated by their German counterparts, who was well established historically in the countries close to the ex- communist block, including Syria. Europeans fear that by focusing solely on the Iranian nuclear program, one might facilitate a much more quieter joint Iranian-Syrian program of uranium enrichment in Hassaka. Also, the geographical choice of the nuclear site is very meaningful. Indeed, because it is located in an area with a Kurdish majority, the program evades suspicions, and also striking against these installations will initially touch the Kurdish community who has historically sided with the West against the Baathists regime of Bagdad and Damascus.
hile various setbacks in the war on terror underscore the limits of American power, it is important not to lose sight of the bigger picture: we live in the age of American supremacy. Part of the explanation for U.S. dominance surely lies in America’s economic strength. But Europe and Japan are similarly wealthy, yet their global sway lags far behind. What they lack is America’s superior military capabilities. In the words of Gregg Easterbrook: “The American military is now the strongest the world has ever known, both in absolute terms and relative to other nations; stronger than the Wehrmacht in 1940, stronger than the legions at the height of Roman power.” Although the dominance of U.S. forces can still be challenged when they come into close contact with the enemy on his home turf, they are undisputed masters of the “commons” (sea, air, and space), which allows them to project power anywhere in the world at short notice
Have now read the full text of the report. It does address some of the points I raised in response to the Executive Summary, though how effectively is a different question.

I'd say that Part I - the analysis of the situation - is pretty good. It fairly effectively conveys the broad contours of the strategic dilemma, what's gone wrong, the trend lines, and the absence of any magic bullets. It doesn't pull punches in describing how bad things are - a refreshing dose of reality. I was relieved to see that the ISG recognizes that "the ability of the United Stats to influence events within Iraq is diminishing" (p.1), which gets to the heart of the problem with many of the 'micro-managing' solutions on offer. It also pours cold water on the McCain proposal that throwing another 20,000 or 30,000 troops into the country for a while will make a difference - the authors recognize that treating symptoms like this doesn't touch the underlying disease, and offers no hope for longer-term solutions: "Sustained increases in US troops would not solve the fundamental cause of violence in Iraq, which is the absence of national reconciliation." (38) Finally, the Report does recognize the importance of the Shia militia penetration of the Iraqi police and security forces: "Significant questions remain about the ethnic composition and loyalties of some Iraqi units" (p.8), "Iraqi police cannot control crime, and they routinely engage in sectarian violence." (p.9)
The Defeat of Islamic Totalitarianism
The Greek historian Thucydides, writing about the calamitous war that had destroyed his own world, made an important observation about the causes of historical events: Even though circumstances may change, human nature remains the same; and certain human elements—especially moral and psychological factors—are at the root of all wars. We can disagree with Thucydides about the identity of those factors, and reject his pessimistic view of human nature, but we will benefit from accepting his challenge to rise above particular circumstances and focus on the principles of human action that are common to all time. Differences in technology, politics, or economics will always remain secondary to the ideas that motivate aggressors to launch bloody attacks and that empower—or restrain—defenders opposing those attacks.

The Australian yesterday reported on the goings-on at the East Preston Islamic College in Melbourne Victoria. Two Muslim students were expelled for desecrating a Bible.
The incident took place while a group of 33 teenage students were on a school camp at Bacchus Marsh last week. Bacchus Marsh is a community situated 36 miles west of Melbourne, near gorges and other scenic locations.
Three students took part in the desecration, with two more witnessing the event. A report from the school states: "The main perpetrator (a Year 7 student) urinated on the Holy Bible, tore some pages from the Holy Book and burnt them then finally spat on the Holy Book." A Year 9 student "tore pages from the Holy Book and burnt them, while a Year 7 student "tore pages from the Holy Bible and then he rolled it up like a cigarette and pretended to smoke it."
The children come from different backgrounds - one is Albanian/Malaysian, one Lebanese and another Indonesian. The first two students were expelled, while the third was suspended.
There is growing concern, both in the U.S. intelligence community and among other groups, that Hezbollah, after years of careful infrastructure building, is now more actively forming franchise operations in Venezuela, Paraguay, Colombia and elsewhere.
Today the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated
nine individuals and supporting Hezbollah in the Tri-Border Area, one of a series of designations over the past year aimed at cutting off the expatriate flow of finances to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
According to a recent report Hezbollah now has a website in Venezuela, which claims responsibility for the unsuccessful Oct. 23 attempt to set off explosives near the U.S. embassy in Caracas.
The website, “Hezbollah in Venezuela” said the purpose of the attack was to call attention to the existence of a group by the same name, and to convert Latin America to Islam through Jihad. It promised more violent actions in the near future.

) – Hamas met with a delegation of "important Democrats" who expressed interest in relations with the Palestinian terror group even if it doesn't recognize the right of Israel to exist, a Palestinian news website claimed today.
quoted a source in the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority stating the terror group felt it important to meet with members of the Democratic Party since, the Hamas source said, the party will likely win 2008 presidential elections.
Stacie Paxton, a spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee, told WND the party was not aware of any meeting.

BRUSSELS, Belgium-Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic accused the international community of applying double standards in its dealings with Kosovo and urged the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe not to trample over its own principle of respecting the territorial integrity of its members.
Draskovic told a meeting of foreign ministers from the OSCE's 56 member states that Serbia will not accept independence for Kosovo and complained that all proposed solutions of the final status of the province ignore Serbia's interests.
"We are victims of double standards. Serbia is being considered a unique case. No borders can be changed except those of Serbia," Draskovic said. "This summit should send a clear message that Serbia is a state like any other state and that its internationally recognized borders cannot be altered or renamed against its will."
Relations between Iran and Turkey have been going well since 1999 and "economic relations are booming," according to Soli Ozel, professor of international relations at Bigli University in Istanbul.
"Cooperation and amicable ties are defining what goes on. Both countries have interest in making sure that Iraq remains in one piece and both countries have an interest in not having an independent Kurdish state," Ozel told IRNA in an interview in Brussels, where he participated in an international conference on the Iran nuclear issue on Tuesday.
Turkey, he said, does not want Iran to develop nuclear arms as that would lead to regional instability.
"On the other hand, we do not want Iran to be bombed at or sanctions imposed on. So Turkey is doing what it can to build trust between Iran and the West," said Ozel, noting that Turkey is an EU candidate country and a neighbor of Iran.
Commenting on EU-Turkey relations, Ozel, who is also an editor of the Turkish daily Sabah, said the EU will face a serious crisis with EU countries that want membership talks with Turkey to continue and those who oppose it.
He said the Muslim factor does play a role in the European opposition to Turkey's EU membership.
"Turkey's current economic situation plays a larger role. The Islam part is easier to mobilize public opinion against Turkey," he said.

, “If I were an Islamist, a terrorist, a sworn foe of democracy, here is what I think I would have learned from the wars in Afghanistan
. This is what I would write down in my hard-earned manual of instruction.”
His article goes to list the things that the Islamists have learned to defeat the
in future wars. Here is some of what they learned.
- Today, the purpose of war is sharply political, not military; psychological, not physical. (Correct. As I have said, this war is currently over men’s minds not geography.)
- Warfare is not, these days, won on a grand field of battle. Nor is it won by the force that wins series after series of military victories. Nor is triumph assured by killing far higher numbers of the enemy. The primary battlefield today lies in the minds of opposing publics.
- The main strategic aim of war today is to dominate the mind of the enemy's public, and then ultimately to dominate the mind of that public's leaders.
Muslims desecrating the bible
TWO Muslim students have been expelled from an Islamic school in Melbourne for urinating and spitting on a Bible and setting it on fire.
"The main perpetrator (a Year 7 student) urinated on the Holy Bible, tore some pages from the Holy Book and burnt them then finally spat on the Holy Book," the report says.
The second boy, from Year 9, "tore pages from the Holy Book and burnt them", while a third student, from Year 7, "tore pages from the Holy Bible and then he rolled it up like a cigarette and pretended to smoke it".
The boys come from a variety of ethnic Muslim backgrounds -- one is believed to be an Albanian/Malaysian, another Lebanese and another Indonesian.
Malaysian Muslims desecrating a bible? Either an apology is forthcoming or else some YouTubes of someone peeing on a particularly violatile Arab book will start appearing. Muslims riotted over rumours of Qurans being flushed. Well now we see how Malaysian Muslims treat the holy books of others.
Next step, name 'em and shame 'em.
East Preston Islamic College is going to be tracked in this post. As usual, I don't expect any Muslims to write about the fact that they even care that this has happened.
A story I found in Expatica News
caught my attention. It described how Jewish children, who were visiting Beringen, in Limburg province, Belgium, were set upon by "local residents of foreign origins." I tried to think which people "of foreign origins" would want to attack a group of Jewish schoolchildren.
Being of a suspicious mind, I Googled, and eventually found more information, care of Islam in Europe, backed up by reports in Dutch from HLN.be and Eyes and in English from JTA News. Their attackers were, unsurprisingly, Muslim youths of Turkish origin. What is bizarre is why Expatica bothered to report the ethnicity of the victims, but not their assailants.
About 60 Jewish children had gone to stay at a youth hostel on an excursion on Thursday, November 30. They had come to visit the Beringen mines, which include the Vlaams mijnmuseum, a mine which had closed in 1992 but has been preserved, with a museum. Other former coal mines, such as the Charbonnages de Beringen (pictured) which closed in 1989 lie deserted in the area, as historical sites of interest.
German chancellor Angela Merkel and French president Jacques Chirac called on Syria Tuesday to stop meddling in Lebanese affairs.
Monday, Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert informed the Knesset foreign affairs and security committee Monday, Dec. 4, that Israel does not intend attacking Syria. Like all its neighbors, Israel is closely affected by the turmoil in Lebanon.
DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Israel should be doubly concerned by Bashar Asad’s latest gambit, filtering Al Qaeda operatives from their Syrian sanctuary into Lebanon, there to foment Palestinian support for Hizballah’s drive to topple the government in Beirut.
This ploy has surfaced in certain incidents of the past week:
On Nov. 28, Omar Abdullah, leader of the al-Qaeda-affiliated Tawhid and Jihad, was shot dead by Syrian border guards on his way to Lebanon with nine forged identity papers in his pocket.

Is Islam compatible with democracy? This is a question I address elsewhere. We also have to ask ourselves, however, whether the conditions needed for a properly functioning democratic system are currently present even in the West. I’m not always sure about that. In a functioning democratic state, the state passes laws in accordance with the wishes of the people, and also strives to uphold these laws. In Western Europe in particular, the state does neither, as most laws are passed by unelected EU bureaucrats and not elected national parliaments, and as the streets are increasingly ruled by gangs and criminals.
When Arne Hjemaas from Fauske in Norway discovered who was behind a series of burglaries in August and September, he gave the information to the police. “We knew where the burglar was and where the stolen goods were. He had stolen so much from us and from other firms that he had hired a garage to store everything,” Hjemaas said, but the police did nothing.
The big story in Niger has nothing to do with loafer-clad unappealing Joseph Wilson or his outwardly attractive trophy wife, but rather with the Saudi money that has helped to transform the practice of Islam in formerly easygoing, syncretistic Niger. This has been reported on by students from Niger who have in recent years returned home from living abroad (in France, for example) and have been horrified at the transformations in the mosques and in the practice and attitudes of the Muslims of Niger.
Someone of my acquaintance, a black African, raised as a Muslim and now a Muslim-for-identification-purposes-only Muslim, recently returned to his home in Niger after having lived in France for the past five years. He came back to France shaken, for everywhere, he said, Saudi money had transformed the mosques. Women who had never paid any attention to rules about dress were now burkaed; a new spirit had infected the mosques, with their Saudi-supported imams. Whatever easygoing, syncretistic religion, marabouts and all, he had experienced, had been definitely transformed out of all recognition.
As the Bush administration struggles to find a way forward in Iraq, the next major conflict there is already underway by proxy armies determined to impose their own agenda in the ugly situation that is likely to get uglier soon.
The next war being fought is between Iran, through the Shi’ite, Iranian-backed militias and infiltrated Iraqi army, and Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Arab Sunni world, anxious now to protect fellow Sunni believers who make up the bulk of the internal Iraqi resistence. All of this will make the situation worse for U.S. forces on the ground and further restrict realistic U.S. policy options.
Both groups support terrorist networks that pose direct threats to the United States and the West. Both sides want the United States to be defeated and forced into a long-term retreat in the war on Islamist radicals. There is no good side here.
(Times Online) Alexander Litvinenko, the former Russian intelligence agent poisoned in London, is to be buried according to Muslim tradition after converting to Islam on his deathbed.
The spy's father, Walter Litvinenko, said in an interview published today that his son - who was born an Orthodox Christian but had close links to Islamist rebels in Chechnya - made the request as he lay dying in University College Hospital.
"He said ’I want to be buried according to Muslim tradition’," Mr Litvinenko told Moscow's Kommersant daily.
A quote from The Sunday Times [Johannesburg, South Africa], 26 November 2006
A report by Britain’s chief immigration think-tank, Migrationwatch, said more than 100,000 British-born Londoners have left the UK capital this year as immigrants stream into the city. Meanwhile, another report by private analysts predicts that the white exodus is set to accelerate further, and that London’s immigrant population will jump from 40% to 60% in just 12 years.
Sir Andrew Green, chairman of Migrationwatch, said the departing whites were being replaced by other ethnic minorities in their neighbourhoods, leading to a “very unfortunate” apartheid-style segregation of the capital.
The report said it was a potential disaster for integration and race relations in Britain. “The effect is a rapid increase in the ethnic minority composition of some boroughs, resulting from an outflow of the white population and an inflow of African and Asian international migrants.”
While white South Africans fled Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban for either suburban security complexes or foreign shores in the mid-1990s, experts said whites in London and cities like Birmingham and Bradford were fleeing to rural “market towns” – and, increasingly, abroad.
In his seemingly xenophobic book, Time to Emigrate? George Walden, who was education minister under Margaret Thatcher, had no doubt about the cause. Immigration had created “unacceptable” terrorist and crime risks, and had doomed British culture .
Interesting results from a new Zogby poll for the University of Maryland, asking Lebanese Arabs tough questions:
A wide gap exists between Lebanon’s Shiite and other communities in their opinion on a number of issues including the outcome of the recent war with Israel and the situation in Iraq and Iran, according to a survey released in Washington Friday.
The survey, conducted November 11-16 by Zogby International polling firm on behalf of the University of Maryland’s Sadat Chair for Peace and Development, shows that more than 70 percent of the country’s Shiites believe that Israel was the biggest loser in the war with Hizbullah this summer. That’s in contrast to Sunnis, Christians and Druze in the country who overwhelmingly believe that the Lebanese people were the biggest losers.
By Walid Phares
On the third day of HizbAllah’s campaign to takeover the Lebanese Government, more sectors from civil society began to rise. But they weren’t rising with the pro-Iranian militia in as much as they were rising to oppose its move. However on the other hand, it was further noticed that a number of Western media increased their support to Nasrallah’s organization.
From Saturday late night into the early hours of the morning, more incursions by HizbAllah’s elements were signaled inside the traditional Sunni West Beirut. A battle with rocks took place in many streets leaving a number of wounded and one HizbAllah militiaman dead. The Iranian-backed militants staged their “thrusts” into Sunni areas from their launching pad in the “protest” areas in downtown, commonly described by the opponents as the “coup d’Etat” basis. According to sources in the Lebanese Army, the gradual “coup” is taking place with a minute preparation coordinated by the Iranian embassy in Beirut. A “War room,” including HizbAllah, Syrian intelligence, President Lahoud’s secret services, Baath Party, Syrian National-Socialists and representatives from General Michel Aoun’s group, is directing the campaign.

, here is an essay written by a Muslim woman named Parvin Darabi
I am a Moslem woman. I have no face. I have no identity.
At age 9, based on lunar year (a lunar year is ten days shorter) I am considered an adult. Being an adult means that I have to adhere with Islamic laws.
I have to pray five times a day, fast one month out of the year and cover myself from head to toe in yards of black fabric. I am eligible to be married and can be punished for any wrong doing. I can be incarcerated and, if needed, executed for my crimes, even political ones.
Islam believes and promotes only one relationship between male and female and that is the relation of lust.I am not allowed to swim, ski, ride a bike, dance, learn to play musical instruments, practice gymnastics, or any other sport. I am not even permitted to watch men play sports, either in the stadium and/or on television.

Here’s the fourth post in the ‘European hyprocrisy’ series, and I have a feeling that it won’t be the last. Here are the links to the previous three: (1 2 3)
Sarkozy, a French presidential contender, was on an official visit to Algeria a few weeks ago. (News & commentary from The Economist). Sarkozy made himself heard by a large audience last year during the violent protests in France, when he referred to the rioters, many of them of Algerian origin, as “scum”.
Sarkozy is also always first-in-line to object when the subject is Turkey’s membership to European Union and he is known for his outspoken critisism and hostility towards Turkey. This is not really surprising, given the unwillingness of the French people for Turkey’s EU membership and given that even Turkish people do not want to join the EU anymore (latest polls suggest that only about 30% of Turkey support joining the EU).
Britain's oldest chain of church bookshops, SPCK Bookshops, have decided to remove copies of the Koran from its shelves, states today's Times. The reason is that the Koran is inimical (i.e. hostile) to Christianity.
The move follows SPCK's sale of a majority stake to the St Stephen the Great Charitable Trust (SSG). This trust is connected to the Eastern Orthodox church, which has had its own history of confrontations made by Islam against it.
The acquisition of the bookshop chain was made on November 1, following a unanimous vote of approval from SPCK's governing body at their annual meeting, held on October 19.
Mark Brewer, a lawyer from Texas who is chairman of the St Stephen the Great Charitable Trust says: "Stocking books which are inimical to Christianity, which without question the Koran is, could well create the wrong impression among some that we endorse the belief systems of other religions as equal or viable alternatives."

Mark Steyn's book America Alone predicts a complete change in Europe as a wave of immigrants arrives and a wave of native Europeans leaves. I read it just a month ago when it came out. Imagine my surprise to read that the prediction has become fact.
The Sunday Times of South Africa has an article today from London England that says Whites are Fleeing Britain. Here's a quote:
A report by Britain’s chief immigration think-tank, Migrationwatch, said more than 100000 British-born Londoners have left the UK capital this year as immigrants stream into the city.

Britain has had a long struggle to ensure that there is one law for all, where all are equal under law. It is less than a century that women have been allowed the right to vote and be a participant in the political process. Britain's legal system is far from perfect and still contains archaic laws which in the hands of unscrupulous campaigners can create injustice.
In 1944 a spiritualist, Helen Duncan was tried under a 1735 witchcraft act and imprisoned for nine months, In 1977, anti-libertarian campaigner Mary Whitehouse mounted a prosecution under the Blasphemy Act of 1697, which had last been invoked in 1921. As a result, editor Denis Lemon was given a nine month suspended jail sentence and a heavy fine.
Finally, rather than pretending Somalia is an unimportant side show in fighting Islamists in Africa, a senior official has actually acknowledged what is really happening.
Jendayi Frazer, the State Department’s head of Africa, told reporters that al Qaeda is operating “with great comfort” in Somalia. In previous statements Frazer and others have advocated dialogue with the Islamist Council of Somali Islamic Courts and downplayed the al Qaeda presence there.
The CSIC is expanding its influence and the African Union have (again) proved incapable of timely action or anything close to a serious response. And, as in Sudan, Arab countries that could exercise influence in the region, have stood by silently, unwilling to tackle the bloodshed and violence. The only thing standing between a complete the CSIC and control of most of Somalia is the threat of a large military intervention by Ethiopia.

Oliver Guitta has a very important piece up at the Weekly Standard which details the mechanism by which Muslim communities turn to the veil
... the Tunisian author and feminist Samia Labidi, president of A.I.M.E., an organization fighting the Islamists, recounts that she personally started wearing the veil before puberty, after Islamists told her the hijab would be a passport to a new life, to emancipation. After a few years, she realized she had been fooled and that the veil made her feel like she was "living in a prison." At first, she could not bring herself to stop wearing it because of the constant psychological pressure. But the 1981 ban on the hijab in public places forced her to remove
it, and she did so for good.
Labidi's experience suggests that in both Tunisia and France the recent banning of the hijab has actually helped Muslim women who are subject to Islamist indoctrination.

The artificial efforts to keep the lid on violence while US president George W. Bush was in the region Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 29-30 for talks on Iraq, were abandoned as soon as he boarded Air Force One for Washington. This was predicted by Jordan’s King Abdullah when he warned that three civil wars were on the point of erupting in the Middle East.
Saturday, Dec. 2, Mahmoud Abbas updated the PLO Executive Committee in Ramallah on the collapse of his unity talks with Hamas, after advising US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice of the stalemate in Jericho Friday, Dec. 1.
Fatah spokesman Azzam al Ahmad came out and called the Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniya to step down or else Abu Mazen would have to call an early election to solve the constitutional crisis. Ismail Radwan of Hamas shot back that this kind of talk inflamed relations and would treated as a coup threat.

Confusion too often prevails over discussions on the relation between the Church and the State. Things get even more complicated when the sword - military and law enforcement - is brought into the debate. This article, Part Four in a series on pacifism and the sword in the New Testament, aims to answer these questions, examining passages in the Epistles.
Should the Church be a State of sorts, as it has in some parts of its history? Should the Church wield the sword in the name of God? We have already seen in previous articles that Jesus separates the kingdom of God from the kingdom of Caesar, but what are the teachings and practices of the early church? Do they hint that the New Testament Church took a slightly different path?

At first blush, the poisoning death of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko by a dose of highly radioactive polonium-210 evokes memories of a Cold War mystery in London from a generation ago. In 1978, Bulgarian émigré writer Georgi Markov was done in by a poison pellet (RFE/RL) shot or plunged into his skin by an umbrella, a murder linked by many experts to Moscow. But the Litvinenko affair is raising alarm on a broader scale (BBC), in part because of public health fears—radioactive traces have been found on London-to-Moscow flights in the past month and thousands may have been exposed to the substance. In addition, the sudden grave illness of former Russian Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar the day after Litvinenko’s death has aroused concerns he was deliberately targeted.
